Chapter One

April 27/2017, Thursday, Three years ago.

The music played softly in the background as I whimpered in pleasure. Aiden’s hands were gripping my waist as I moved on top of him. His eyes were glued on me as I just moaned softly. My hair was tousled all over my face. He pulls me to him and connects our lips together.

“You’re crazy.” He whispers between the kisses while he slowly flips us over. I tangled my fingers in his hair. “But I like it either way.” He connects our lips into a very passionate kiss.

“You love me either way.” I grazed my tongue on the edge of his lips, his body tensed up on top of me.

“I’m gonna be late for practice.” He says and gets out of bed. I grabbed my phone from his nightstand and checked the time. A reminder notification pops up on my screen, rehearsing songs & pills. I groaned and got out of bed to grab my shorts from the floor. “What’s wrong?” Aiden asks while slipping on his ripped jeans.

“I have to go to the studio and rehearse, I have a show this Sunday.” I replied as I buttoned my shirt, Aiden walked up to me and handed me my headband.

“Right, I almost forgot I had a famous girlfriend.” He jokes and I smile.

“I’ll call you later.” He leans to me and pecks my lips. “I love you.”

“I love you too.” I exited his bedroom and made my way out of his house. I got inside my car and sighed as I searched for my bottle of pills inside my bag. After seconds of searching, I found it, I popped one of the little blue pills in my mouth and quickly swallowed it down my throat.

I gazed up at Aiden’s bedroom window and saw him pacing in his room searching for something. Suddenly my phone dings, I rolled my eyes, guessing it was Oscar, my producer. “Can you not wait till I get there?” I asked for myself as I unlocked my phone to see who it was. A smile creeped up my lips as I saw the name A.J on the screen.

Got any plans tonight?

Depends on what u have in mind x

I put my phone on my lap and strapped it on my seatbelt. Aiden exits his house and walks over to his black colored Bronco. He waves at me with a grin and I back up his driveway to then drive off to the studio. My phone dings, but due to me driving right now I decided to ignore it. After a thirty minute drive, I reached the studio. Rooftop Recording Studios. I turned off the engine and grabbed my bag plus phone, to then get out of my car and walk over to the entrance. The smell of fresh made coffee was lingering through the halls, making my taste buds go crazy.

“Ina!” I gazed at my right, seeing Oscar walking over to me. “You’re finally here, enter the booth now and get it going.” He says and claps his hands together. “We have today and tomorrow to rehearse for this Sunday.”

“Did my mom come by?” I asked him as we entered his recording room.

“No, she told me to tell you she won’t make it to your show this Sunday due to her having dinner with some investors.” Oscar replies while putting on his headset. I entered the booth and put my bag on the chair next to the microphone.

“She’s always busy.” I murmured to myself as I put on the headset.

Present Day

“Who is this Oscar?” Detective Martin asks while putting down her pen.

I play with the cuff of my jumpsuit. “He was my record producer, Oscar Lahey.”

“Since when did you know him?” She asks and pushes her glasses up the bridge of her nose.

“I knew him for a year since I started singing, he’s the one that put my name out there.” I respond and she nods.

“Did your mom ever go to one of your shows?”

I jumped my leg up and down. “No, she was always busy with something.”

“And your dad.”

“He left us when I was eight, then came back when he saw a banner of me near his work place. He then tried to win me back, but I found out he had a new family with two kids.” I wet my lips.

“What is your mother’s name?”

“Tate Barone.” I replied and she wrote it down.

“We’re gonna start from the top, okay?” Oscar speaks through a microphone, which echoes inside the recording booth.

I nodded my head and went closer to the mic. The music started to play through the headset and I moved my body at the rhythm of it.

♪♪...Only think about him on the weekdays and weekends...Only in the mornings and evenings. Only when I wake up and sleeping, oh my God. Should have read the warning on the label, I don’t. Say proceed with caution, but I won’t. Guess I do it often...♪♪

The music stopped and I gazed at Oscar.

“Very good, now the chorus.”

I nod my head.

♪♪...What do I do? I’m a fool, keep on coming back to you. I’m so stupid for ya, I’m so stupid for ya. You’re so bad for my health, but I just can’t help myself. I’m so stupid for ya, I’m so stupid for ya…♪♪

The music stopped again.

“You sound like the angels themselves from above.” I giggled and he smiled.

“I didn’t know if it was good.” I said as I fiddled with my fingers.

“You were excellent, Ina.” He said as I grabbed my bag from the chair. “I’ll see you tomorrow again for the other songs and you’re ready for Sunday night.”

“Thank you.” We hugged each other for a second. I later left the studio building.

I scrolled through my phone and decided to answer A.J’s messages.

I’ll be out of work at 6
Swing by my apartment?

Sure babes xx
Wear something nice

I grinned like an idiot at the screen of my phone as I pressed my legs together. The AC in my car couldn’t cool down the heat my body was radiating at this moment. One of my hands went through my hair as I took a deep breath.

Where r we going?
It’s a surprise
I love surprises

I locked my phone and drove off to the sorority house on campus.

Present Day.

“Who was this A.J?” She asks and I smile at the mention of his name.

“Someone I knew.” I replied.

“I know that, but the whole name? A.J is an abbreviation of a longer name.”

I tap my nails on the table. “Yeah, but I still can’t say his name.”

“Why not?”

“Can I continue with the story?” I asked her and she sighed to then nod her head.

April 27/2017, Thursday. Three years ago.

“Where have you been?” Kiera asks me while entering my room.

“I had to go to the studio, remember I have a show this Sunday.” I replied as I took off my shirt.

“Right.” She plops down on the loveseat. “What time does it start?” She asks as she types on her phone.

“At seven.” I replied and grabbed my towel from my closet hanger.

“Inanna!” Esther bursts into my room.

“What?” I looked at her confused.

“Your brother, Adym….” She says almost out of breath.

“What about him?” I arched my brow.

“He’s...is he dating someone at the moment?”

I giggled and shook my head. “My twin brother hasn’t done dating since middle school.”

“Then, what the hell is this?” She showed me her phone. I ripped it out of her hand.

“What the hell indeed?!” It was a picture of my brother and Joane, the girl I hated the most. Both of them were kissing in front of the mirror, which I think was in her dorm room. “Joane is gonna regret this.” I handed Esther her phone back and walked to the bathroom to take a shower, and suddenly my phone started ringing.

“Uhm, someone named C with a heart emoji is calling you!” Kiera says while gazing at my phone on the vanity. I quickly ran to her and snatched my phone from her.

“That’s my dad.” I lied and declined the call.

“Why do you have him saved as C and not dad?” She asks, confused.

“I don’t know, his name is Carlos. Just a nickname for him.” I said and she nodded her unsure.

Present Day.

“Tell me your name.” The detective asks and I sigh.

“Kiera Jones.” I replied.

“Were you friends with Inanna Barone, Esther Fields and Nita Reese?”

I nod my head. “Yes, we were in a sorority, Inanna was the leader.”

“Did you know Joane Forbes?”

“Who didn’t?” I giggled. “She had slept with everyone on campus, even with Inanna’s father.”

“Were you friends with her?”

I scoffed. “No.” The flashbacks of that day rushed through my head. “She never was.”
