I picked a single long stem from the bouquet and dropped it on the spot while Christine stood beside me and gazed down at his grave.

“White,” I smirked. “Elegant, yet funereal.”

“He said to surprise him. Joke’s on him.” She stomped on the rose, flattening the silky petals. “He doesn’t deserve any flowers, Gypsy.”

I turned to her. “You should’ve come to me sooner.”

“How could I? I couldn’t look at myself. But I swear to you, if I could turn the page back, there’s no way I would’ve given in to him. I was so stupid.” She kicked the ground again. “He had a way, didn’t he? Those sweet little lies to charm and bend you until you broke.”

“And here we are - no more broken hearts. We better get moving. People think you’re going on vacation, right?”

“I’ve been telling everyone - our six months’ getaway. It’ll be too late to find us by then, and I’ve already cleared our bank accounts. This is a new day for us, sis.” I tilted my head towards the car.

“Let’s get outta here.”
