I Miss You

Dylan

I walk through the produce aisle and I can’t shake the feeling that someone is watching me. I try to look around to see if I notice anyone but I don’t. I shrug the feeling off.

I reach to grab some apple and someone’s hand brushes mine. I pull my hand back quickly.

“Oh I’m sorry.” I deep voice apologizes from next to me.

I take a step away from the man. “It’s alright.”

“Dylan?” The man questions.

I turn to look at him and my eyes widen. I feel like I know him from somewhere.

“I’m sorry. Do I know you?” I take another step back. My eyes glance around for someone close to me.

“It’s me, Drew?″ He furrows his brows a bit.

“I’m sorry. I don’t......″ I trail off. How do I explain to him that I don’t remember my past?

“No, I’m sorry. I heard you were in the hospital and lost your memory. I tried to visit you, but they said you weren’t excepting visitors.”

I wasn’t accepting visitors? I never said that. Maybe because I didn’t have my memory, they decided for me? I’ll have to ask Shea when I see him later for our date. He did call me last night after he got off work and told me that our date would be tonight.

“How do I know you?” I ask him politely.

“Uhm. We were kind of friends?” He blushes a bit.

“Kind of?” I cock my head to the side.

He sighs. “We casually hooked up. You were always too busy with work to commit to anything with me.” He looks away.

“Oh.” Is all I say. I take a better look at him. He is average height, way shorter than Shea. He is lean and has some facial hair. His eyes are brown and so is his hair. He is good looking but I don’t feel any attraction to him. Maybe Shea ruined everyone else for me.

“Don’t worry about it Dylan.” He shakes his head but I can see the pain flash in his eyes.

I open my mouth to speak but he beats me to it.

“I have to go. It was nice seeing you. I’m sure I’ll see you again.” He smiles but it doesn’t reach his eyes. He turns and walks away. Something about the way he said he will see me again makes my stomach churn.

I sigh and turn back and grab some apples. I feel my phone vibrate in my pocket. I take it out and see several text messages. My eyes widen and I panic while I read the messages.

I drop what I am holding and grab my bag and leave the store. I immediately call Shea. He doesn’t answer the phone. I frantically leave a voicemail and walk quickly to my apartment.

It only takes me about 2 minutes to get there.

I rush into my apartment and start to sob out. I don’t bother answering my phone when I hear it ring. I know it’s Shea but im too scared to touch the phone. I don’t know why this is happening to me.

How could he get my number? It’s on Shea’s plan. He was watching me because he knew what I was wearing. I quickly rip off my shirt and throw it on the floor.

I can feel the room getting smaller. I feel like I can’t breath. I sit on the floor. What am I going to do?

I hear someone knocking on my door but I can’t get up. I can’t move.

I feel a hand on my shoulder and I jump.

“Dylan? It’s ok. It’s just me. Take some deep breaths for me.” Shea’s soothing voice reaches my ears.

I do as he says and I take deep breaths. I slowly start to come back to my senses. I look at Shea and see his worried expression.

“Come on.” He says softly. He grabs my hand and helps me get off the floor and walks me to the couch. We sit in silence and I start to cry again. He gently wipes my tears away and wait for me to calm down.

After a few minutes, he finally speaks up. “What happened Dylan?” He asks softly.

“My phone.” I croak out. He furrows his brows a bit then clicks that I’m asking for my phone. He gets up and searches for it. It’s in my bag so he checks and grabs it and hands in to me.

I unlock it and gulp. I try not to reread the messages but I can’t help it. I hand the phone to him with the thread still pulled up and his eyes widen.

“Where were you when these were sent?” He grits out.

“The grocery store.” I whisper.

“Did you see anyone watching you or talk to anyone?”

I shake my head. “I didn’t see anyone.” I pause and furrow my brows. “Wait, I talked to someone named Drew. He said he knew me.”

He nods his head. “Did you recognize him?”

“He looked familiar but no, I didn’t recognize him.”

“Did he tell you how you knew him?” He questions me. I gulp and look away. I don’t want to tell him that he was someone I had sex with.

He puts his hand over mine. “Hey. It’s ok. You can tell me anything. I’m not here to judge you.”

I sigh and look back at him. I tell him everything that Drew told me. I study his face as I am telling him and I don’t see any type of disgust or judgment. I relax just a little bit.

“I understand that you had a life before you met me, so I can’t get mad at you when I learn about your past relationships. I’m not that type of guy. Ok?” He says gently.

I nod my head. Can this man be anymore perfect?

“I need to call Detective Jones and update him. It’ll just be a few minutes. Get dressed and we will go on our date. Ok?” He stands up and heads to the front door to make the call.

I get up quickly and jump in the shower and get ready.

It takes me about 30 minutes to get fully ready and Shea is waiting for me on the couch looking at his phone with his brows pinched.

“Everything ok?” I ask him as I approach the couch.

He looks up at me and puts his phone away as he stands up. “I had the phone company change your phone number.” He holds out my phone so i can take it.

I nod my head.

“Let’s go.″ He says and grabs my hand and leads me out the door for our date.
