Cindy Powell uses detective work that she learned from her father as a young girl in her job as real estate mogul, Benson Easton's assistant. Benson has a need to know every detail about an associate before doing business with them. It is Cindy who digs up that information. When she has a difficult case, she requests help from her police detective boyfriend, Sam. While investigating several new possible clients for Easton Real Estate, she begins to receive threatening messages. Someone has something to hide, and they will do anything to keep their secrets buried. Cindy becomes targeted the deeper she delves into their life. *** I wake up disorientated with my head pounding. I touch the sensitive spot on my temple. My hands are extended and handcuffed to a water pipe. I take a moment to glance around the room that is now my prison. Slowly everything comes back to me. How will Sam will find me now? I gasp when I hear the door above me squeak open. I close my eyes while I listen to the heavy footsteps descending the stairs. "Please hurry, Sam," I whisper to myself in despair.

Chapter 1 * Always Together

"It's amazing baby how we loved each other so, and we'll always be together, always together." -The Dells

The morning light wakes me, and I make a note to tell Sam that I will need something to keep the sun from blinding me the mornings that I spend with him. I stretch as Sam quickly pulls me into his hard body. He mumbles incoherently into my neck, sending shivers down my spine.

"Baby, I have to use the restroom," I say as I attempt to wiggle free from his tight embrace.

He grunts disapprovingly. "I'll let you go if you promise to march your sweet ass right back here to me."

"I promise, now let me go!" I beg, and he grudgingly releases me.

I relieve myself and return quickly to my man. I jump onto him. He grunts when I land on his chest.

"Damn, woman! Are you trying to kill me?" He smirks as he pulls me off of him and hugs me tightly.

He kisses my forehead before I lay my head on his smooth chest. The rhythm of his heartbeat lulling me back to sleep.

The cold feeling of Sam's body moving away from my body jars me awake.

"Hey, where are you going?" I say with a disappointed deep, sleepy voice.

"I am going to put the coffee on. I am coming back here to devour you!" Sam announces. My body quivers at the thought.

"Hurry!" I call out to him.

He turns his head back to me. "Baby, this will be the quickest pot of coffee ever made. I can promise you that!"

I sigh and cuddle into the soft mattress and pillow. I am amazed that I feel more comfortable in Sam's bed than my own.

Keeping to his promise, Sam returns quickly. He crawls in between the sheets and begins to slowly touch every inch of my skin with his soft, silky hands. I moan in appreciation when he takes his time on my sensitive areas.

"Baby, I plan on spending the rest of my life memorizing your incredible body," Sam whispers in my ear. He is interrupted by his phone.

"Damn it!" He leans over and grabs his phone from the nightstand. "Detective Sam Kidwell."

While Sam takes his phone call, I decide to hop into the shower. My mind goes back to almost a year ago when I unexpectedly ran into Sam and his coworker Pete on a cruise that was gifted to me by Benson Easton. I took my best friend Millie with me. Our stateroom was right next to Sam and Pete's. Pete and Millie hit it off and have been together ever since. Sam and I bonded over investigating two missing women on the cruise. The suspect threw Sam and me overboard. We were rescued and able to identify him. He was accused of murder and brought to justice. He pleaded out and received life in prison.

I finish my shower and begin drying off as Sam enters the bathroom. "Work?" I ask.

"Yeah, I am sorry, but I have to go." Sam looks at me while struggling between his civic duty and taking me right where I stand. His eyes dilate as he takes in every inch of me.

I wrap my towel around me. "Go, Sam."

I try to walk past him, but he grabbed my towel. The last sight he saw of me was my naked body running into his room and slamming the door.

I dress and meet Sam in the kitchen. He is pouring himself a travel mug of coffee. He grabbed a cup from the cabinet and filled it for me.

"Thank you, Babe." I smiled and kissed him sweetly on the lips.

He quickly hugged me. "Promise me that you will be here after work. I need you."

My heart flutters. "I promise. I love you! Be safe."

"I love you, too." He brushes his soft, sexy lips against mine. My body shudders as I watch him walk out of the door.

I am pulling the stuffed chicken out of the oven when I hear Sam coming through the door.

"Damn, Baby, what smells so incredible?" Sam asks as he places his arms around my waist and kisses the sweet spot on my neck.

"Chicken," I answer as I lean back into Sam's hard chest.

He turns me into his chest and lifts my face to meet his intense gaze."I am so damn lucky to have you in my life." His lips barely brush against mine.

I gasp and melt against him. "Go sit," I say breathlessly.

He kisses my forehead, and I serve him dinner. He tells me the reason that he had to leave so quickly this morning. He got a good lead on a murder case. He spent the day following his lead and ended up coming up with nothing substantial. My father taught me that even the smallest of breadcrumbs could be the final piece of the puzzle that brings the whole case together.

After we eat, Sam insists on helping me with the dishes. We finish up, Sam refills our wine glasses, and I follow him out to his back deck. We sit in comfortable silence, holding hands, and sipping our Merlot.

Sam speaks to me quietly, "Babe?"

I turn towards him. "Yeah."

He places my glass and his on the table between us. He takes both of my hands into his. He is looking down at our hand. He looks nervous, and I am surprised.

"Sam, what is it? Are you okay?" Then a terrible thought comes to my mind. "Are we okay?"

He looks up at me in surprise. "What? No! We are great, so great that I want you to move in with me."

I gasp. I was not expecting that. "You want me to move in with you? That's a big step."

"Is that a no?" Sam's eyes drop back to our hands.

I quickly recover and pull my hand away from his grasp. I place them on each side of his face and pull it up so that his grey eyes are staring intently into mine. "Yes!"

"Yes?" His brows raise with hope.

"Is tonight too soon?" I smirk.

"Tonight is perfect." He stands and reaches his hand out to me. "I believe we have some unfinished business to attend to."

His light grey eyes go dark with unbridled desire. I feel the fire ignite deep within my center. A fire that only this man knows how to quench. I take his hand and feel the heated electricity spark between us in anticipation.

Once inside his, I mean our bedroom, we quickly discard our clothes. He comes to me and takes me into his strong arms. We lose ourselves in each other as he walks me backward to our bed. When the back of my knees hit the mattress, I fall back. Sam stands and takes a moment to gaze over my nakedness.

He leans over my body supporting himself by placing his arms on my sides. "You are so beautiful. I promise you this, Cindy, one day you will become my wife."

"Make love to me." I request with an aching need to have him inside of me.

"Yes, Ma'am." Sam takes his sweet time giving me explosive pleasure time and time again. I know without a doubt that I have found the love of my life, my future husband.

We did not know that our love has an unexpected turn in our future. One thing we did know is that our love was worth the fight.
