Shakespeare and his plays have had such a profound influence on modern literature that it is almost impossible not to recognise a Shakespearean feature in works written even hundreds of years after his time.

+ Read the following opening lines of the Prologue from Romeo and Juliet:

Two households, both alike in dignity,
In fair Verona, where we lay our scene,
From ancient grudge break to new mutiny,
Where civil blood makes civil hands unclean.

+ (Re-)imagine the play as a novel and write a NEW opening sentence in prose (novels are usually written in prose, whereas Shakespeare’s works were written in verse).

+ Write only the first sentence!

+You have until Friday, November 5, 22:00 (CET).

+Only one text per writer!

+ Share the link to this challenge on your wall to spread the word

+for questions, use the ‘Questions’-chapter!
