Chapter 1
“Lindsey! Breakfast is ready! Come get it!” The girl heard her dad yell from the kitchen.
“Coming dad!” She yelled as she pulled her long cocoa brown hair into a pony tail and threw on a black leather jacket and skinny jeans. She raced out of her room, past her dad’s room and down the stairs into the kitchen.
“Woah, slow down there speedy.”
Her dads voice was low and scratchy. She could tell he hadn’t slept again. He hadn’t slept hardly at all the past week after what happened. Lindsey couldn’t sleep very well either.
She sat down at the counter as her dad placed a bowl of cereal in front of her. That’s all they really had left, dad didn’t really go grocery shopping, mom usually did.
“Dad? Have they found mom yet?” Lindsey said looking up from her bowl of cereal.
Her mom left for work about a week ago and never came back. Her dad called the office that she worked for but they said they hadn’t seen her. So he called the police and they sent out a search party. But all they found was her car on the side of the road near an old wood’s.
She could see the hurt on her dads face with the question.
Her dad didn’t say anything and poured himself a cup of coffee, and disappeared into his office.
After finishing her cereal, Lindsey made her way upstairs and sat down at her desk and opened up her laptop. She knew there was something odd about those woods they found her mom’s car by. She was assigned to find information on the woods and write a story for the paper on the disappearance of two brothers.
But what she didn’t get was why her car was parked there and why she hadn’t stopped by the office first like always.
“Lindsey, let’s go! You have to get to school.” Her dad yelled from the entry way as he grabbed his keys.
