Chapter 18

He’s here! Our mate is here. I quickly scan the hallway but I don’t see anyone.

Are you sure Nan? There’s no one around.”

“I’m sure! He’s here, I can smell his scent. It’s weird though…… definitely not wolf.”

So my mate is human, not ideal considering the pressure coming from my dad but I can make it work.

I didn’t say he was human…. It’s weird. I don’t know what it is.”

“He’s not human? If he’s not werewolf, and he’s not human what is he?” There was just werewolves and humans. That’s it! You’re either are one of us or you aren’t?

Well if you would quick freaking out I could finish explaining. There’s definitely no wolf scent that I’m sure of. There is human scent but that’s not all of it, there’s a smell of-“

“MISS ROGERS!” I jumped at the sound of Principle Jacobs voice. “I’m sure you have an excellent excuse for why you are loitering in the hall and not in your homeroom.”

“Um…” Yes actually, I was trying to have a conversation with Nan about our mate until you so rudely interrupted. Considering Principle Jacobs is human I stuck with my “Um” response.

“And I’m going to guess you do not have a hall pass either?” Just as I was about to respond the bell rang.

“I better get to Math class before I’m late, bye Principle Jacobs!” I took off for my class before he had a chance to stop me.

I had tests in all my morning classes so I didn’t get a chance to finish my conversation with Nan. When I walked in the lunch room I was surprised to see all the girls there, as I walked up to the table they all looked at me with big smiles. They were up to something.

“What’s going on?” I asked looking at all of them.

“We have the BEST plan ever!” Lily was literally bouncing in her seat with excitement.

“Scarlet, being the smarty pants she is, was able to get the locations of all the known packs all over the country, and Ellie was able to map out the best route, and Lily has volunteered Eddie to be our driver! It’s all set, we will leave as soon as school is done!” Renee had been busy this morning. My heart felt like it was going to burst from the love I felt for my friend’s right then. These girls had my back no matter what.

“Well guys, while I appreciate all your hard work, it won’t be necessary.”

“What do you mean it won’t be necessary? You better not be cutting us out of your mission to find your mate! We all love you and want to help you!” Lily pointed a finger at me.

“Calm down. It won’t be necessary because my mate is here. At school.”

With my admission all my friends started talking at once.

“What? Where?”

“Who is he?”

“We have math together why didn’t you tell me?”

“Is he handsome?”

“Of course she thinks he’s handsome it’s her mate!”

“Whoa guys stop! I don’t know who he is.” They all stopped and looked at me. “My wolf can sense he’s here but I haven’t met him yet.”

“But he’s here! That’s so exciting! Can she tell if he’s a strong wolf? Maybe we won’t have to do any training after all!” Renee said.

“Awe…. I was looking forward to putting the guy thru some tough drills.” Lily pouted. I could see Ellie was a little bummed to.

“Well, you still may get that wish. He’s human, I think.”

“You think?” Scarlet asked.

“Nan, my wolf, said he smells human but there’s more to it. She hasn’t explained it more to me yet.” Speaking of, “Why haven’t you explained it more to me yet?”

“Because I don’t have it figured out yet.”

Great. Even my wolf was confused about our mate.

“How can there be anything different? You’re either werewolf or not.” Ellie said, “Right?” She looked at Scarlet our resident brain of the group.

“Well…..” Scarlet hesitated.

“Well what?? What do you know that we don’t?!” Renee demanded.

“Okay. I’m not supposed to say anything because I’m not supposed to know this but….”

“Oh spit it out Scarlet!” Lily said.

I reached over and squeezed her hand to encourage her to continue.

“We aren’t the only ‘things’ out there.” We all stopped and started at her.

“What do you mean we aren’t the only ones?” asked Ellie.

“As you know my parents work for Alpha, researching new things that the search teams come across.” This I knew, my dad liked to keep up on new things that popped up in their searches. With us being hunted we needed to keep up on new things that could possibly harm us, but as far as we all knew that only included plants, herbs, and metals. That type of stuff.

“They’ve discovered other creatures in their searches, we aren’t the only ones.”
