Chapter 40

Saturday night Ellie, Scarlet and myself went to Renee’s for a girls night. Lily had a date with Eddie and everyone knows mate trumps junk food and chick flicks. Once we were all comfortable with all of our favorite snacks in front of us, I filled them in on what my mom had told me about Alpha Bryant and his pack.

“A whole pack gone just like that, I can’t even imagine.” Scarlet said in disbelief.

“That explains why the Alpha’s decided to keep the others secret, if we don’t know about them then the risk of us mating with one of them is never a problem. If we can’t find out mates we are able to mate with another unmated werewolf, keeping the line strong.” Ellie said shrugging her shoulders.

“Annie could go rouge, she would lose her entire family and friends but she would have Troy.” Scarlet said.

“And leave all of us behind? No way! Annie would never do that.” Argued Renee.

“It may be her only choice though. What are the other options? Reject him?” Ellie offered.

“Enough.” I said. “I am right here in case you guys forgot.”

“Sorry.” They all murmured.

“Annie, what are you going to do? You’re going to be Luna, if you walk away and go rogue that leaves the leadership to David, and we all know that isn’t good for him or the pack.” Renee was right, I couldn’t leave it all on David’s shoulders.

“I hate to be the one to say this, but what other options do you have besides to reject him?” Ellie looked at me and then the rest of the girls who looked back at me.

“I really don’t know…. I just don’t know.” I whispered.

Renee clapped her hands together to get our attention. “Enough talk about mates, and all that other crap. Nothing needs to be figured out tonight so….” She held her pop can in the air to propose a toast “Let’s just be us for the night, have fun, and eat way too much!” We all raised our cans and clinked them together. I reached over and squeezed Renee’s hand silently thanking her for changing the subject. She gave me a wink and we all started to debate on what movie to watch. We had all the normal chick flicks but when it came down to it we all chose Thor because I mean, well do we really need a reason? You’ve seen what he looks like right?

As we settled in to watch the movie I looked at the girls surrounding me. My life was on shaky grounds in all other aspects except here, right now. These girls (and Lily!) were my rocks, I knew without a doubt whatever happened in my future they would always be right by my side supporting me.

I spent Sunday afternoon catching up on homework and spending time with my family. My mom knew how hard of a time I was having and tried to make things a little lighter and fun around the house. I didn’t want to burden her or make her feel like she had to coddle me. I was about to tell her that but then I saw that she was making my favorite dinner Chicken Tortellini and I decided that I would just wait on telling her anything. Don’t judge me, if you had ever tasted it you would have kept your mouth shut too.

As I was crawling into bed that night I heard a small thump against the side of the house near my window, must have been the wind. It had been extra windy lately and finding sticks and limbs scattered all over the yard wasn’t anything new. I laid down and heard another thump, I closed my eyes in frustration, this was going to be a long night. Once I did fall asleep there was no waking me up, but it took me forever to fall asleep if it was noisy. I pulled the covers over my head and heard a ping against my window. I sat up in bed and looked towards my window, a limb wouldn’t have made that type of noise. I got up and walked to my window to look out, I didn’t see anything but I heard another thump near my window. I opened the window to get a better look and right as I stuck my head out a pebble came flying at me and hit me square in the forehead.

“Hey!” I said rubbing my forehead.

“Crap. Did I hurt you? Shoot… you probably are hurt. Crap!” I smiled as I heard my mates voice.

“Would you hush, I’m fine. It will take more than a pebble to hurt me.” I reassured him. “Your aim however is quiet offensive, where did you learn to throw?”

“Ha ha ha, you’re so funny.” I couldn’t help but laugh at him a little bit.

Can you come down?” He asked.

“Yes I’ll be right down!” I shut my window and rushed to my door, then stopped and looked in the mirror. Yikes! I had a ratty t-shirt on and an old pair of basketball shorts on, they were super comfortable but not cute at all. I quickly changed into a tank top and some running shorts, then ran a brush thru my hair. I debated on putting on some light make up but then realized it was dark outside and he couldn’t see me that well. I quietly opened my door and snuck down the stairs, our house was big enough that I’m sure my parents wouldn’t hear me but their also werewolf’s with excellent hearing so I wasn’t going to push my luck.

As I stepped out the back door I looked for Troy but couldn’t see him. “Troy?” I loudly whispered. The response I got was arms around my waist and a kiss to my neck.

“What took you so long little fish?” He asked me.

“It took me five minutes, if that.” I defended myself. I could feel his smile against my neck. “Not that I’m not extremely happy to see you, but what are you doing here?”

“I know it was a little risky coming here like this but I had to tell you something.” I could feel the excitement radiating off of him.

I turned in his arms to face him, “You’re going to get a coach to help you learn how to throw better?” I teased.

His response was a swift smack to my backside.

“Ouch! Okay okay, I won’t tease you anymore about it.” I said.

“Darn, I actually kind of enjoyed that. I was hoping you would tease me a little more.” Troy said as he leaned in a started kissing my neck. I could feel my cheeks turning red and I knew if I didn’t stop him now we would never get to what he had come here to tell me. I pushed him back just a little to get his attention.

“While I love your kisses, you came here to tell me something remember?” I reminded him.

“Fine…” Troy grumbled under his breath. I leaned up on my tip toes and gave him a kiss making him smile.

“So…” I prodded.

Troy got a huge smile on his face, “I’ve got a plan to keep us together.”

I couldn’t help but get excited, a plan! Finally no more ‘I don’t knows’, my mate has a plan.
