“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.” – Buddha

My first full day back in our apartment in OC. Simon left my uncle’s house early. Since he’s been back, he’s installed two bird feeders – one for hummingbirds and one for other birds. The hummingbirds come first – flitting in that magical way they do, stopping only long enough to inhale the nectar outside our bedroom window. Seeing them brings me immediately into the present. No time for wallowing in despair when watching hummingbirds feed.

I go through the mail and what to my wondering eyes should appear but confirmation of a full-year extension of unemployment funds. I drop to my knees in thanks, especially since I’ve sent out about 100 combined job inquiries and applications in the past few months and gotten nothing in return. So, amen and hallelujah for this continued safety net.

So, yea and verily, we are both given most generous gifts to start the new year and we are very grateful. We celebrate by dancing around the apartment and blowing the horns they give you at New Year’s Eve parties. We are hoping to find a much cheaper place to live so we can stay in OC after all. Later, Simon brings home a ceramic angel from the Dollar Tree for our shrine. We give thanks again.
