The Guy Who Gave Up His Jersey(20)

“You see? No wonder our kids are dysfunctional!” My dad screamed at my mom.

Stop it. Please...just stop.

My knees were against my chest and I kept rocking my body back and forth. Mascara trails were all the way down to my collar bone, and my eyes were getting puffy from all the crying I was doing.

“Yeah thanks to you!” My mom shot back at him.

Why couldn’t they just shut up? They just needed to drop the argument, if they kept arguing they would only make the fight even bigger. It had never gotten this ugly before, there were times Xavier would leave, but it had never gotten to the point where I was crying in my room. I felt hopeless and useless, but mostly scared.

Thud. Something crashed against my window catching my attention, when I looked up Ale stood on the balcony, giving me a worried look. I got up running to open the door, the moment I swung those crystal clear doors open, I launched into his arms.

I was never so relive to see him before. He soothed me running his hand over my hair over and over again. Even from the balcony you could hear their screams, their useless screams for love.

“It’s okay.” He whispered, hugging me tightly against his arms.

“W-where is Xavier?” I stuttered, trying to keep myself calm.

“Linda picked him up from my house. After he left I came over to get you, you don’t deserve to be in this house right now.” He told me.

I backed away from him, sniffling. Even after everything we been through, he cares. He cares if I’m safe or not, and even after being a total ignorant girl with him he wants to protect me.

“I’m going to take you to Control’s house, I told him what was going on.” He explained to me.

I nodded. “O-okay, thanks.”

He told me to pack some clothes in my bag, before he helped me sneak out the house through the balcony. You would think even after driving away you would stop hearing your parents screams but it seemed as if it stayed in my mind, replaying.

My dad said we were dysfunctional and he understands it’s because of them. I have abandonment problems because I’m always used to people leaving me. So getting attach to someone and having the fear of them just disappearing on you, it’s scary.

“Are you okay?” He asked me, giving me a quick glance.

I nodded. “I just hate when they fight,” I mumbled, looking out the window.

For the past couple of months all I really wanted to do was see my dad, strangely I missed him. He wasn’t a bad man as my mom claimed him to be. He loved us, he truly did. Whenever I would be upset he would come up to me and say “Baby girl why cry. It takes a pretty girl more strength to cry than to smile.” That would always do the tick. In no time I would be smiling and gigging as he tried to cheer me up.

“Sometimes my parents do the same, its because they are getting old.” He tried lightening up the mood.

I smiled at him. “I think my parents don’t love each other anymore,” I responded, playing with my fingers. “What parent’s argue and argue every time? I find it useless for them to be together,”

Ale stayed quiet for a moment. “Just because they fight doesn’t mean they don’t love each other. You find it surprising how people express their love.” He said, quietly.

When we drove up to Control’s drive way he was sitting down on his porch, shirtless. I got out the car running up to him, he looked at me before picking me up in his arms. Nowadays whenever Control was the only person I wanted to be close with. He filled up the little empty section in my stomach.

“Are you hurt?” He asked me, scanning his eyes all around me.

I shook my head. “No, my parents aren’t like that, I just freaked out when they fought,” I told him.

He sighs, kissing me on my forehead. “Thank you for calling me dude. And thank you for bringing her to me.” He said to Ale.

Ale nodded, giving us a small smile. “No problem I just wanted to make sure she would be okay.” He responded, kicking the pretend dirt.

“Thanks though. I’ll take care of her from here,” Control responded. “You should go home and rest,”

Ale nodded, waving us goodbye he walked back into his car and drove away. Suddenly, my body felt cold, my heart ached, and tears only covered my eyes again. Control picked me up and carried me inside his house, he took me to his bathroom, cleaning my face off.

He told me to lay down on the bed while he grabbed a cup of warm tea. I sat on the edge of the bed, sniffling. Why couldn’t life just give me a moment to relax and breathe before throwing me something in my way again.

When I finally thought everything was going to be okay this happens.  Control stepped in with a tray in his hand, there was two cups of warm tea and a bottle of pills on it. He put it down on the nightstand handing me the cup of tea.

“I brought some Advil in case your head was hurting or something.” He said, sitting down next to me.

I put the warm up against my pink lips, just keeping in it there. “Why do you care so much about me?” I blurted out.

Control gazed at me. “I care about you because I just do. You’re my girlfriend that’s what boyfriends do.” He said, simply.

“But truly we aren’t together; you don’t have to do none of this for me.” I whispered, looking down at the cup of tea.

That’s what I didn’t understand about Control, we were pretending to date but he acted as if he actually cared about me. Ever since day one of his contract he has been making sure I was smiling no matter what, but never even once did I think if he was happy.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re my girlfriend or not, I’ll take care of you because that’s the type of guy I am.” He said, standing up.

Grabbing my face with both of his warm hands he kissed me softly on my lips. “I care about you more than you will ever understand,” He whispered, giving me another small peck.

He walked out the room, turning off all the lights in the house. After he had secured the house was locked he made me go to sleep, but even after he knocked out I couldn’t sleep. My mind was driving me insane, and all I could think about was Ale and Xavier.

Control hand was on top of my tummy just protecting me from falling off the bed, slowly I took his hand away getting up. I grabbed his hoodie from the chair and walked out the room. It was late to go look for Xavier but I knew Linda would take good care of him.

I left the house without saying another word, I wanted to go back home and check on my mom. Even after the fight I worried about her and just imagining them fighting again almost made me cry again.

The walk to the house wasn’t long and the chilly night made me relax a little. I just needed to be alone at the moment and although I have a guy that just wants me to be okay, I feel as I cant.

When I walked in the house all the lights were turned off, except the hallway upstairs. My mom was curled up in the couch; I grabbed the blanket from her room and covered her up. Afterwards I walked upstairs; my dad was in his office drinking some vodka in a glass cup.

He glances up at me and sighs. “Your home.” He said, putting down his cup.

I nodded. “I just wanted to make sure you were okay,” I whispered, closing the door behind me.

“Your mother and I will be fine Julie, we just going through a hard part of our marriage.” He smiled tiredly.

I sat on the chair looking at him closely. Going through a hard part of their marriage wasn’t everything they were dealing with, I couldn’t say marriage was hard but it looked complicated, but what about the fights? Was that something they were going through too?

Having a husband that is rarely home must be difficult but somehow you could work it out. I know I would try, I mean I never seen my mom happy before and just having to listen to her scream and cry, it hurt me.

“Do you not love her anymore?” I asked him, timidly.

“Of course I love your mom. Juliana your mom means the world to me why would I not love her?” He questioned me hurt filling his voice.

“Because fighting is all you two do.” I told him. “You’re hardly home and mom is hardly home, Xavier and I are going through some tough times too you know. I’m going through a tough time and when I need you and mom the most all you two do is fight,”

“What’s going on?” He stood up walking towards me.

I bite the inside of my cheek, fighting the tears. I played with my nails digging them into my flesh. He took hold of my shoulder and shook it lightly.

“What’s been going on Juliana,” He said again.

“I don’t want to lose someone else. Everyone else can walk out of my life except you daddy,” I cried, swinging my arms around his neck. “I want you and mom to stop fighting! I don’t want to spend another day hearing you and her scream!” I sobbed.

He stayed quiet hugging me. “I’m not going anywhere Julie. I promise you baby I’m not leaving your nor your mom, ever.” He muttered kissing me on the cheek.

He gave me another kiss on the forehead before leaving the office. I sat on the chair again, just staring out the window. I wondered if this was my punishment for wanting to harm someone else. I wondered if maybe life wanted to teach me a lesson because I was worse than Ale.

Your life has gotten complicated because of him. He was the one who walked in your life and destroyed everything, because may I remind you that your life was perfect before he walked in.

It doesn’t matter what Alejandro did anymore, I just want everything to change. I want to wake up every morning to change jackets, get picked on Alejandro, and hate the game. I don’t want to go back to school dealing with mix emotions!

I wanted the world to freeze and just rewind, my world needed to be put back on its course before it completed broke apart.

That night I didn’t sleep at all, I just sitting there in the same position, rewinding my life, remembering how good it was before. When I had to get ready for school my body was already begging for me to just fall on the bed and sleep, but I didn’t want to sleep. I didn’t even want to talk, I just wanted to sit wherever I wanted and think, and get lost in my own world.

I tied my hair in a messy ponytail and pulled my bangs out, I tried my best to cover up the purple bags under my eyes but it was useless. I put on some skinny jeans and control jeans, before leaving to school.

Today I wanted everything to be calm, I wanted to get to school do some work, go to lunch, and fix jackets. That’s all I wanted my day to consist off, but that would too much to ask for.

When I was about to make it to school I got a phone call from Denise.

“Calm down! I can’t understand you!” I screamed at her.

Denise cleared her throat. “Olivia came to my house beaten up,” Her voice shook.

I stopped the car, grabbing onto the cellphone. “What do you mean she came over beaten up?” I questioned her, panicking.

“As you hear me she has bruises all over her face!” She cried.

“Where are you?” I asked her.

“My house.” She sniffled.

“Stay there! I’m on my way!” I said, clicking the end button.

I turned the car around making cars honk at me. I understood now life wouldn’t stop punishing me, I knew now that I wouldn’t have a day without having something bad happen in my life. Just imagining how bad Olivia could be only frighten me.

When I drove up to Denise’s house Linda’s car, Gabriela’s, and Control were there. I unbuckled my seatbelt and ran inside the house. My heart was beating rapidly and my stomach twisted into a huge knot.

On the couch Olivia sat shaking terribly. She looks up at me with teary eyes. Her lip was busted and swollen, on the side of her face she had a red hand print, and her hair was messy.

“What happened to you!” I screamed at her.

“I-I-He-I-“She closed her eyes breaking into tears.

Xavier grabs onto her holding her tightly against his arms. Everyone stared at me, worriedly. What the hell happened to her? She looked like a bus ran her over before a tornado scooping her up!

“Who did this to her?” I yelled at Gabriela and Denise.

“You need to calm down first.” Control said, touching my shoulder.

I pushed him slightly away from me. “Calm down? Someone beat the shit out of my best friend!” I shrieked angrily. “And you are telling me to calm down!”

“Don’t you think we are mad too? But literally now we are in deep shit Juliana.” Gabriela said, panicking.

I ignored her. “Who did this to you?” I asked her again.

“Roy.” She managed to say.

Roy? Roy Anderson beat her up?! They all stared at me as I found a way to react.

“B-b-because he got me drunk and I told him w-what we-we were doing,” She stuttered.

“He got her drunk and she spilled out our plans,” Denise said. “So he got mad and instead of leaving her there he beat the crap out of her.”

Olive scrunched up her face crying harder. “He said this was to teach me a lesson. That we don’t mess around players.”

My eyes watered as I stared at her. How could he do that to her? Why would he hit a girl ever, people don’t do that. Just imagining how he hurt her and her crying for him to stop made my blood boil.

“She told him everything. By now the entire school should know what we were planning even Alejandro,” Gabriela muttered, running her hand through her blonde hair.

“Right now I can’t think about the game. I am going to kill Roy!” I shrieked, throwing a fit.

Xavier looked at me. “All of us want to kill him right now Juliana but you don’t know what the hell Roy is capable of!” He shouted at me.

“You need to go fucking kill him!” I yelled angrily.

“Kill him! Juliana he is going to destroy all of our life’s! Do you not know how a player reacts when a girl tries to play them?” He asked me.

“I bet it doesn’t involve hitting a girl,” I muttered.

“These aren’t your average players Julie. Roy can be a player but the school bows to their knees for him. The moment he spills everything all of us are down.” Linda said, nervously.

Olive stared at me. “I’m sorry Julie. I’m so sorry,” She cried out to me.

I hugged her, sighing heavily.”No I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to get you involve in this,” I whispered.

Eventually something would had happen to make everything even more difficult than it already was, but this game this stupid game was going to stop now. I grabbed the keys from the table making my way towards the door.

“Where are you going?” Control asked me.

“Juliana don’t go something stupid!” Denise cried out.

I shook my head, keeping my eyes on Olive. “No one hurts my friends and then threatens to ruin my life.” I said, annoyed.

“What are you going to do?” Gabriela asked me.

“Teach him a lesson.” I responded, walking out the door.
