Chapter 18

I gritted my teeth and clenched my jaw. I swong my fist at Ryder, hitting him square in the jaw.

"Don't ever do that again." I said to him. It was an act, both of us knew it, others wouldn't know though. I spit before his feet and walked off. I knew Ryder would have a god awful bruise but I couldn't care less about it. He would live.

Other's just couldn't question my authority.

Carsyn was still sleeping when I arrived in the infirmary. Ever precaution was being taken to insure her survival.

"How's she doing?" I questioned in a whisper.

"She shows no signs of physical harm, well for the most part. She had a deep cut on the side of her face, most likely from being slapped we assume a ring was dug into it, and well," He hesitated. "Tell me." I said coldly. He just walked over to her and pulled up her shirt a little. There was a bright red '2' that was burned into her skin. It was about the size of an egg.

"The fucker did that?" I questioned, my fists clenched tightly shut, my knuckles turning white and my nails digging into my skin, my lips turning into a thin line. My eyes hardened and my face showed clear rage. Ryder had taken my gun so that at least made me somewhat safe. As long as no one touched me.

What the fuck did the '2' mean?

And why the fuck was it on my child.

"Ashtyn, think logically." Ryder said, trying to calm me down.

"I am." I curtly replied. "No, killing him won't take that mark back." He said, I stopped short.

"Who said anything about killing him?" I questioned.

"John!" I yelled, he looked up from his book that he had been reading. "Get the fire on." I told him before heading over to where Moso was.

"Oh god." Muttered Ryder. Payback's a bitch.

For the next three hours Ryder and I spent it leaving scars on Moso. In the form of 'Property of the Kings don't fuck with us' is what it turned out to be. His screams just melting in with the smell of burning flesh. I gave him marks for each person he killed. And the amount of day's he had been here.

"Okay, I'm done." I said, Ryder nodded and put the fire out.

"Okay, we are done here." I said pulling out a gun that laid on the table, I didn't hesitate to pull the trigger on his forehead.

"Leave him in the ditch and text the coordinates to what use to be his gang. They should know not to fuck with us anymore." I said to John. He nodded and walked out after Ryder and I.

"She's going to have to live with that on her body forever." I said.

"Yes, but she won't remember the pain." He said. "Yes she will." I said. Then it hit me, I pulled up my shirt, with the number '1' on it.

"Holy fuck Ashtyn. When the fuck did you get it?" He questioned.

"I've always had it, I asked but my father just refused to tell me, now it makes sense. It's a branding mark for woman bartered off to higher members. I was suppose to marry that one dude, I was number one for that family, then Carsyn was the second. She was number two." I said.

"How come you never told me? And why have I never seen it before?" He questioned. "The eye sees what it wants to see. Mine was faded and somewhat blends in with my skin. So you just saw my skin. Now you can see that." I said. He could only nod.

"I'm sorry." He said. "Sometimes I can imagine the burning pain there, but no memory of it ever happening, but I can still feel it." I said.

"No one should ever feel that." He said. I nodded. "It's okay, she shouldn't remember the memory hopefully." I said.

"Ashtyn!" I heard Renee yell. I ran towards her and hugged her tightly.

"Hey, Renee, Jessa." I said.

"I heard that you had a tough week. How is Carsyn?" Renee asked. Jessa gave me a small nod.

"What are you guy's doing here?" I questioned. She shot me a look. Then I checked the date on my phone.

Her wedding.

I completely forgot.

"Oh my god, I am so sorry, I completely forgot, I'm such a horrible sister." I started rambling on.

"No, I understand, it's not every day that you lose a child. Is that blood?" She questioned completely changing the subject. I shot a look to Jessa who simply smiled at me.

"Maybe?" I questioned. She just smiled.

"Okay, let's go, we have a wedding to set up for." I smiled and led the way down to the suite.
