Chapter 3

I noticed that both of the boys had their penguin and tiger, and that Carson had her Elephant. Of all the fucking toys they could have brought and they chose the ones that I brought with me before the fire started. The ones that I saved because I wanted to keep those in memory of him. Ryder noticed the penguin but didn't ask me. I slowly tried to fall asleep but the music kept me and Carson up. I closed my eyes in attempt to fall asleep.

"Carson?" I heard Ryder say.

"What?" Her little snippy attitude coming out. I fought the urge to tell her not to do that.

"Where did you get that?" He asked. I figured he was referring to the elephant. "Mommy sai--"

"Carson Victoria King, don't you dare say another word to him." I shot out of my mouth before she could say. I had told the triplets anytime that it was a gift their father had gotten them. Anytime that they saw a family they would ask about their father. I always told them that their father left before he knew about them.

"Mommy doesn't like me talking about daddy, I think its because Sam left." She whispered to him. Sam. The person that I quite liked but he left. Didn't want to be around the kids after the accident.

"Why did Sam leave?" Ryder questioned, He knew I was listening but he still pressed on.

"After Tessie went to heaven mommy was sad, Sam was sad too. So Sam left." Shit.

"Carson, go to sleep." I said in a stern voice.

"Yes mommy." She said. I didn't hear her talk again and I faded into a sleep.

"It wasn't my fault!" I screamed at him.

"She died because you can't stop working!" Sam screamed at me.

"She died because her heart had a hole in it." I screamed back at him.

"If you would have just stayed in bed it wouldn't have happened. She would still be here!" He screamed back at me choking on the last words.

"It's not my fault, it was a break in, what was I suppose to do, he pushed me and ran. I couldn't help it." I said in a whisper.

"I'm done, good luck." He said and grabbed his backpack and took off.
"It wasn't my fault." I whispered.
"Mommy?" I heard, I bolted up right. Carson.
"Did you have a bad dreamed?" She questioned me. I just nodded.
"Was it about Tessie?" She asked. I didn't answer. "Are we almost there?" I questioned. Ryder just nodded.
"Where are we going?" I asked, I hadn't known how long we slept but was now daytime. "To New Orleans." He said. I froze.
"We can't go there." I said. He only looked at me.
"Look at you, cant even face your own family. I had to go to your funeral, Ash. I watched them put a coffin of a random dead girl into the ground. I cried for you." He said.
"Well I went through my own troubles then as well." I motioned to the children.
"I see that you move on fast." He said. I nodded.
"How old are you?" He asked Alex in the backseat. "Three, I'm turning four in June." He said proudly.
"Okay." he said he didn't ask anymore questions. I checked my phone. It was ten and I had two calls from the preschool.
"Shit." I whispered before hitting return call.
"Hi this is Camryn King, I am so sorry I could not call back right away, I will be keeping all the kids home today because I think that Carson ended up giving Alex and Owen her little cold. Yep Thank you." I said and ended the call.
"Who was that?" He questioned.
"It was the preschool. They attend school Ryder. You can't just uproot us like that." I said.
"Kids cover your ears, your mommy and I have some stuff we have to talk about." He said. The kids dramatically pressed against their ears.
"I had too Ash. You just can't do that." He said.
"How did you find me anyway?" I questioned.
"Easy hacked into your fathers network with the help of someone." He said. I scoffed. "Kassie. How is she doing?" I asked.
"She's changed Ash, She joined and has been on a few tech missions but nothing more." He said. I nodded.
"God what happened after I left?"
"You mean faked your own death. I moved to California right after your funeral, a couple months later I received a call that I had been hacked and immediately guessed her, She told me she wanted to join, I let her. Then she met someone. They're pretty serious." He said.
"Good for her."
"What about my sisters?"
"Anna is a interior designer, mainly she plants bugs in houses. And Renee is working in a large CEO company, hasn't talked much with her though." He said. I nodded.
"Do they know?" I questioned.
"No. Thought it would be a nice surprise. You come knocking on the door with this guy name Sam's kids." He said.
"He isn't there father." I said lowly.
"Then who is?" He questioned.
"For gods sake Ryder put two and two together, I was eight months pregnant with those three when I had them, they were born in June, I think you can do math." I said lowly.
His eyes grew wide.
They can't be, we were careful." He said. I nodded.
"I thought so too, but remember the first time we hooked up? It all happened so fast we didn't use protection." I said. He let out a loud sigh.
"Mommy, what's going on?" Carson questioned.
"Alex, Owen, Carson I would like for you to meet your real father." I said and motioned to Ryder.
"Oh your father is going to kill me." He said.
"I know, that's what I'm planning on." I told him. He shot me a dark look.
