Chapter 5

One year later….

“Mum, almost all the kids have gone, it’s our turn!” Jason tugged at Kathy’s arms, eyes shining.

Kathy laughed “OK! You sure you want me to stick around this time?” Jason nodded his head vigorously.

“Quick mum! Before Santa goes home.”

So they went hand in hand. Jason was carrying a nicely wrapped package.

By then, Santa was just done with the last child in the line

“Hi Santa! “Jason grinned “Do you remember me?”

Santa smiled “Of course I do! How can I forget the boy who’s on top of my Nice list?”

Jason blushed, suddenly self conscious.

“Santa, I want to say a big thank you for teaching me to pray last year. You’re not gonna believe it, but mummy really married her boss this summer. I baked you some cinnamon cookies with mum’s help. She says you’d like it.”

“She did?”Santa replied, eyebrow raised in mock surprise, eyes crinkling in amusement at Kathy

“Well, I must say she’s got excellent taste,”

Kathy sniggered as she knew he was not just referring to the cookies.

Jason nodded “I wish Daddy could join us but he suddenly had to go back to work after lunch.

Oh and guess what? I’m going to have a little brother or sister next year!” He rubbed Kathy’s baby bump in awe and whispered into her tummy “I love you baby! Can’t wait to see you.”

Daniel and Kathy exchanged a tender look. On their wedding night, Daniel finally came clean with Kathy on who Santa really was. They had a good laugh and marvelled at how things had fallen in place like pieces of a puzzle

They agreed to share this secret with Jason some day when he stops believing in Santa Claus.
