Chapter 1 - The Qualities of Being God-Confident
So, as you have read in my previous book, "IDENTITY - The Call to God Confidence", I talked to you about the God-confident lifestyle and how to live it out. Remember what I said about being unashamed? Well, being unashamed is a fantastic quality to have, but it can get a little out of hand.
What do I mean?
Being unashamed is great if it is used to give glory to God, not yourself. Let's take a look at two different Scriptures so that way you can really see the difference.
First, let's look at Isaiah 3:16-17.
"Moreover the LORD says: Because the women of Jerusalem are haughty, And walk with outstretched necks And wanton eyes, Walking and mincing as they go, Making a jingling with their feet, Therefore the Lord will strike with the scab The crown of the head of the daughters of Zion, And the LORD will uncover their secret parts." (NKJV)
This Scripture talks about being unashamed of the way you walk, talk, and act. This is a very dangerous kind of shamelessness, as it promotes vanity, which can lead to a whole bunch of dissension and shame.
However, there is a type of shamelessness that God desires us to have: being unashamed for the cause of the Gospel!
Let's look at a commonly used verse about this, Romans 1:16.
"For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek." (NKJV)
Now that is the kind of shamelessness that gives glory to God! He loves it when we are unashamed to represent Jesus and His Kingdom! Let me give you a good example of people who display this kind of attitude.
Have you heard of the Christian rap music collective 116? This group represents the message of Romans 1:16 in their music and lyrics. What a great way to be unashamed of the Gospel!
Take a few minutes to think about the verses discussed in this first chapter. Then, ask yourself these questions:
1. Am I unashamed of the Gospel, or am I just boasting in the flesh?
2. Am I drawing unnecessary attention to my appearance and actions, or am I focusing on my heart and asking God for help in areas of my life that I need to work on?
3. Am I really living out the call to God confidence?
4. Is my heart in the right place?
These questions are extremely important, as they will aid in your walk with the Lord. Think about these questions, then take some time to write here.
