Chapter 12

March 2, 2014

Dear Luke,

The more my dad rags on e the more I try to see the positives in life. One of the foremost things I focus on is the fact that I love you. I try to find ways to tell you, but it is never the right time. lso I am scared that if you do not like me it could end our friendship. I realized that if I lose your friendship I lose one of the brightest points in my life, and I can not do that. I realize that sounds selfish. But there is this thing I do called coping. And my way of coping with my father and life in general is to write to you, and if we aren’t friends anymore, that would be kinda awkward. Just saying.

Your friend,

Raine

Dear Luke,

Omg! I got a laptop today. HP. Red. I haven’t used it much yet, but I plan to. I am so excited. Also, I planted a mango seed today. Fingers crossed that it actually grows. I have four more if it decides not to. Dad is dad. Crazy, borderline maniacal and completely degrading. At least I’ve got you to build me up.

Your friend,

Raine

Dear Luke,

We had our first track meet of the season today. It was an away game so we got to get out around 1. I missed most of english and all of IP. I got second place in the 200. On JV of course. Immediately when I was done the coach came over and announced that I would be running the 4 by4 relay. He had me run last. I won it for my team. It felt really good. Liberating even. An all the while you were right there cheering me on. Loudest of them all. Thanks for that.

Your friend,

Raine
