Chapter 15

May 22, 2014

Dear Luke,

I finally saw Divergent on Friday. We didn’t have school because there were multiple fires. My dad and brother left for Florida today. You are actually reading a book AND bought lunch today which is a miracle in and of itself. Maybe I’m finally rubbing off on you.You have been acting a little strange lately though. Too many high fives, and pats on the back. Too many lame jokes that I laugh at even though they are not funny. Debating things that do not matter, and hunting me down when I do not show up to lunch. I took a quiz online to see if you like me. 2 out of 5 said yes. 3 said that you are starting to see me as more than a friend, but don’t know whether you should cross the line. Sorry. Did not mean to sound creepy.

Your friend,

Raine

It is officially summer break. I wish it was not though. It is so boring. I do not get to see my friends. Meanwhile my dad and brother are enjoying the beaches in some country or the other. My mom refuses to let me do anything fun unless I got to tennis practice. They’ve made it personal now my parents. They claim I do not want to play just to spite them. I am so done caring what the hell they think. If they really loved me they would be able to see how much I despise the sport. I cut my hair today. It is so soft and curly now. My head feels so much lighter.

Your friend,

Raine

Dear Luke,

I thought cutting my hair would make things easier, and it did, but it just feels like my whole family hates me for it.Everyone is so dissapointed; I can see it in their faces, feel it hanging like a dark cloud. It is so not fair. The way they are acting you would think I snuck out and got drunk at a party. Now I just feel horrible for having short hair. How could something so petty cause a reaction so big? And my mom. My mom continuously berates me about how bad it looks.Sometimes I just wish I could go to sleep and never wake up. This world is way too miserable for me.

Your friend,

Raine
