“That man is literally in love with you,” I said. “Dude, he clearly likes you,” Ash said. “Hmm, I don’t know about that” Indigo said. “You know that’s not true,” Ash raised an eyebrow. “I’ll leave you alone for now but this conversation isn’t over,” I said. Indigo just rolled their eyes and Denzel covered his mouth with his hand to prevent him from bursting out into laughter.

That’s when Emma, Camila, and Ashanti walked in. When it came to having other friends, they were the few people that I spoke to. “Wassup bitches,” Ashanti said. “Hey guys,” Emma said. “Hey Indigo and Ash,” Camilla said, ignoring my presence. I rolled my eyes and gave her a glare. She always did this. She seemed to have some kind of problem with me but every time I would point it out, she would put on a fake face.

Out of the three, I was definitely closest to Ashanti just because I had the most fun with her. They all sat down in the seats behind us and we all engaged in conversation while waiting for our teacher. After about five minutes, she frantically walked in. “Sorry, I’m late. I see some of you guys have already met the new kid. Come and introduce yourself to the class,” she said while making a “come here” motion. Denzel walked in front of the class and waved to everyone.

“Uhhh the names Denzel. I play basketball and I- uh love to read” he said. “So you’re a nerd?” someone asked. “Respectfully shut up,” I glared. “Monique,” Ms.Kim warned. “Sorry,” I smiled. “You can take your seat, Denzel”. Denzel nodded then sat right back down beside me.” So where are you going next?” I asked him. He looks down at his paper. “Uhhh English Honors?” he said. “That’s on my way. I can take you there then go to my class,” I said. He just nodded and smiled.

We all continued our conversations until the bell rang. I got up and threw my backpack over my right shoulder. I didn’t have Biology with anyone in my friend group so I waved to everyone and Denzel and I walked out into the hallway. We just walked in a comfortable silence until we reached the English room.

“Here’s your class,” I smiled. “Thanks, Monique. See ya later,” he smiled and waved. I nodded and started walking to Biology. I walked into the room, did a small wave, and sat at my desk. I put my bag down on the floor right next to my leg. Then the bell rang, signaling that class was about to start. “Okay class....” the teacher started.

Then the rest was a blur because I started daydreaming. Daydreaming is my way of coping with life. It’s such a relaxing experience and it’s one of the best ways to escape reality. You can think about whatever you want and be in your own little world. It hits even deeper without interruptions. I was completely spaced out when I felt a tap on my shoulder. I twitched as I looked back to see Julian waving his hand in front of me.

“Pay attention, idiot,” he said. “Why do you care. If you don’t wanna get curb stomped, I advise you to shut up, you rat covered in human flesh,” I glared. I hated when people took me out of my comfort zone. He just sat there, awkwardly. “That’s what I thought,” I said. “Damn you got put in your place by a girl,” someone said. I just rolled my eyes and groaned.

“Bruh I swear all of y’all can suck my dick from the back,” I said. All of the boys cocked their necks to look at me. “Fuck you say?” one of them said. “You deaf? Or just stupid?” I raised an eyebrow. “Man shut up. That’s why you look like Kermit,” they all just laughed. “And that’s why you’re dead built like an underdeveloped chihuahua, you whore” I said back. I heard a few snickers and I peeked at the teacher holding back a laugh.

The boy just gave me a glare so I just smiled to infuriate him. He was looking for a reaction that he wasn’t going to get. “Man whatever,” he said. I just smiled and flipped him off then went back to my daydreaming. After another twenty minutes, I quickly shifted up in my seat. The loud bell echoed in my ears and it took me a few seconds to get used to my surroundings.

I grabbed my backpack and walked out of the classroom. I dragged myself to Geometry, then Biology where I met up with Ashanti. “Hey Shanti,” I said. “Hey Nique,” she said, punching my shoulder. I felt a throbbing pain in my shoulder. “You trifling ass bitch. That hurt” I glared. “Tough” she smiled. “Arson”. “Homicide,” she responded. “Murder. Second degree” I smirked.

“You win”. We just kept talking until the bell rang. I really don’t understand how I have a 3.7 GPA. I literally daydream in every class. Again, I was startled by the loud bell. The whole school day dragged on this way. The only decent time of the day was lunch. I was in my final class of the day. I walked into History class with a sigh of relief from a long day. Mondays always felt the longest. I walked in to see Denzel and Ash. “Hey, guys. Denzel, you finally figured your way around?” I asked while setting my bag down. “Yea...no. I walked into four wrong classrooms on my way here,” he said. Ash and I both burst out laughing.

“Don’t worry. You’ll figure it out,” I smiled. Then Indigo walked in. As soon as they walked in, they stopped in their tracks and just stared at someone behind me. I raised my eyebrow in confusion, and my expression quickly changed into a smirk when I looked behind me to see Aran. They were both staring at each other for about ten seconds until Indigo quickly broke it by sitting down next to me.
