“Hey, guys” Indigo waved. “Hey,” we all replied. “Bruh go talk to him. I know you want to,” I squinted my eyes. “I’m good,” they replied. I kept trying to convince them when Aran got up and walked up to us. He stood right in front of Indigo’s desk. “Hey,” he said, looking down right into Indigo’s eyes. I saw Indigo turn red as they awkwardly responded. “Hey....” they replied. I could just feel the tension between the two of them, but I kept quiet. I just let them have their conversation.
“Did you finally find your way around?” I asked Denzel. “What? Yea definitely not. I walked into four wrong classrooms on my way here,” he said. I started snickering and wheezing. He just glared at me which made me laugh harder. “Don’t worry. You’ll figure it out,” I patted his shoulder and looked at him. He was sitting at the desk in front of me and had his upper body turned to face me. “Yea,” he looked at me and we both made eye contact. I stared into his deep, dark eyes and got lost in them for a second.
I was just taking down some notes when I realized nobody was talking. I looked up to see Monique and Denzel staring into each other’s eyes. Why are they looking at each other like that? “Monique,” I said, feeling kind of jealous. Why did I always feel this way when someone was around her?
I waved my hand in front of her face, snapping her back into reality. She just coughed. “What was that?” I asked. “Huh? Oh. Nothing,” she said. I could easily tell when she lied. I’ve known her my whole life, how could I not? “Hey you guys wanna hang out and do something after school?,” Indigo asked. “Sure, let me just ask my mom,” Monique replied. “Sure,” I said.
“Denzel and Aran you guys wanna come?” Indigo asked them both. They both perked their heads up to look at us. “Sure,” they both said at the same time. I was fine with Aran coming but there was something about Denzel that threw me off. But I just pushed the feeling away. “We can just walk around and show Denzel around town,” Indigo said.
We all went back to our notes and class finally ended after what felt like hours. Every time I would check the time, it would be the same as when I checked what it felt like three years ago. When the bell rang, I felt like a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders. I grabbed my backpack and stretched.
I quickly pulled out my phone from the back pocket of my jeans and texted my mom. “Did she say you can go?” Ash asked me. “She hesitated a bit, but I told her I wouldn’t be out long so she said it’s fine,” I responded. “Okay then let’s go,” Indigo said.
We were all walking out the door when Ashanti and Camila walked up to us. I groaned realizing exactly what was about to go down. “Where are y’all going?” Ashanti asked. “We’re going to show Denzel around town,” I said. “Why didn’t you guys think to invite me?” Ashanti said, raising an eyebrow. We all just stared at her with a straight face.
“Do you even want to go?” Ash asked. “Not really but y’all should’ve at least asked”. “Are you dumb, or just stupid?,” I asked. “Whatever Monique,” she said. I just smiled and flipped her off. “Camila you wanna come?,” Indigo asked. “I’m going somewhere later,” she said. “Okay, that’s fine”. “Actually I do wanna go,” Ashanti said. “Okay let’s go,” Indigo said.
We all walked with me, Denzel and Ash in the front, and Aran, Indigo, and Ashanti right behind us. We walked down the street to where there were a lot of small restaurants. We walked Denzel all the way to the mall which was about a twenty-minute walk. “Holy shit my legs hurt,” I said. “Tough,” Aran said. “Die”. “Okay,” he smiled. I just glared at him while everyone was laughing their asses off. I was just spaced out when I felt someone pinch my back. “Who the hell?!” I yelled. Everyone instantly pointed to Denzel and I glared at him. He ran and hid behind Aran. “You’re so lucky I’m not in the mood to kill you,” I said, rolling my eyes.
