I was walking with Ash down the road when I got an idea. “Wanna go to the park?“. “Sure. We can both clear our heads,” Ash responded. We walked down the road and took the back road to a clearing. There were trees and a huge empty field with hills here and there. I laid down and stared at the evening sky and Ash sat down right next to me.
I closed my eyes and took in the scenery. “I have something to tell you, Monique”. My eyes almost bolted out of their sockets. My stomach did a cartwheel. Those words always made me feel uneasy, no matter where or who they came from. “Uh yea what’s up?” I said, closing my eyes again.
“So I don’t really know how to sugar coat this, so I’m just gonna say it,” Ash said. I just hummed, ready for whatever I was ready for. “I’m in love with you, Monique,” I faintly heard. “Wait, what?” I said. “I’m in love with you,” they repeated.
Woah. I wasn’t expecting that. If I am being honest with myself, I love Ash with my whole heart. I always flirted here and there, but I never thought they felt the same way. But I don’t know how to do all this. What do I say? Why am I hungry again?
“I- I don’t know what to say,” I said, honestly. “That’s okay, I know it’s a lot to take in,” Ash said. “It’s not that,” I said, looking down. “Huh?“. “Give me two days to go over it and I’ll get back to you with a proper response,” I said. “Yeah okay,” Ash smiled. Ash laid down right beside me and we both just stared at the sky.
“I thought you guys were going home,” I heard behind me. I lifted my upper body and looked behind me. Ashanti was standing there with a confused look. “We wanted to come to the park to clear our heads. Do we have to announce it to you before we go somewhere?” I said. “Well you lied,” she said. “I’m not doing this with you right now,” I said, lying back down.
“What’s your problem, Ashanti?” Ash said. “My problem is you guys lying about leaving,” she said, crossing her arms. “It’s not really a big deal...,” Ash responded. “Whatever fine. Be toxic if you want,” she said, walking away. “What is her problem today?” Ash said, laying back down. “I could really care less,” I said. “Hmm”.
Then an idea popped up in my head. I pulled out my phone and sat my upper body up. “Ash, sit up for a second,” I said. “Hm? Okay,” Ash said, sitting up. I opened Instagram and took a picture of our lower bodies facing the empty field and held the phone high enough for the sunset to be visible. I snapped the “capture” button about 6 then I lowered the phone to my view. “Yuhh it looks good,” Ash said. “Yea,” I nodded.
“I’m gonna post it. Is that okay?” I said. Ash just nodded. I picked 3 out of the 6 pictures I took and posted them to my Instagram.

“Wanna go home now?” Ash said. “Sure, let’s go,” I said, getting up and dusting off my jeans. We took the way we came with and walked back down the road.
