“So what’s up?” I asked him, still confused as to why he wanted to talk to me. “How can I get Monique to forgive me?” he said. “Why is she mad at you?” I asked him. “She said because I was rude to Ash, but I apologized to Ash already so I don’t understand why she’s still mad at me,” he ranted. I truly didn’t know how to answer him because I had no experience with situations like this.

“To be honest, I don’t really know what to tell you. But I think she might just need space for now. The more you bother her, the less likely it is she will forgive you anytime soon,” I told him. “Yeah okay,” he said, looking down. I could tell he felt bad but it wasn’t for me to intrude. If I was being honest, there was something off about him, but he hadn’t bothered me directly in any way so I just pushed the thought away. I had a feeling he liked Monique, but she most definitely wasn’t checking for him so I’ll stay away.

We both walked back into class, and Monique, Ash, Indigo, and Ashanti were staring at us. “What?” we both said. “Sus,” Monique said. Stealing my lingo. “No, “I said. I just sat down in my seat and went back to taking my notes.

After about 3 minutes, Aran and Denzel came back into the room. I couldn’t help but wonder what they were talking about. But it wasn’t my business so I just shrugged it off. I went back to daydreaming and after about 10 minutes, the bell finally rang. I went through the same process all over again. Going to class, daydreaming, and moving to the next one.

My day finally ended, and I was completely drained. As soon as I get home, I’m taking a long ass nap. I sluggishly dragged my feet to the front yard and found a bench. It was Tuesday so my mom would be picking me up. I was just scrolling through my phone when Ashanti came up to me. Great. Just great.

“Hey,” she said. “I say this in the nicest way possible, what do you want?” I said. “I just wanted to say I’m sorry,” she said. “For?“. “Being rude to you guys yesterday,” she said, looking down. When it came to my friends, I couldn’t stay mad at them for a long time. And I really wasn’t in the mood to argue with her right now. “It’s fine. For real,” I said. “You sure?“.

“Yea. We’re cool,” I said. “Okay, see you later,” she said, walking away. I waited for like 15 minutes then my mom finally came. “Sorry I’m late,” she said. “No it’s okay,” I said while putting my bag down. “Where’s Ilyasa?,” I asked her, as she pulled out of the school parking lot. “He has after school today”. “Oh”.

“I have a lot of things to do. Do you want to come with me or should I drop you at home?” she asked me. “Can you please take me home? I’m tired,” I said. “Okay. But nobody’s there so keep your phone ringer on,” she warned me. “Okay I will,” I said. She then drove me to a nearby Mcdonald’s and got me some food since I would be home by myself. Then she drove me home.

“Amira will be back in about 2 hours and I’ll be back with Ilyasa around 7. Do you have your keys? ,” she said, as I stepped out of the car. “Yes, I do. I’ll see you later,” I said, as I closed the door. I lifted my keys from my lanyard and unlocked the door. I stepped in and made sure it was locked.

I threw my shoes off and placed them in the shoe closet. Whole house to myself. I sighed and went up to my room with my food. I sat the food down on my dresser and pulled my backpack off my back. I sat down at my desk and ate my food. After I finished, I threw everything away and sighed in relief. I hadn’t eaten all day due to the school food being horrible.

I threw myself on the bed and remembered what my mom told me. I grabbed my phone and switched my ringer on. Then I set it down right next to me. I looked up at the ceiling, just thinking about random things.

That food hit different. Please I’m so fucking tired. Why is school so stressful? I need socks. Imagine if I got kidnapped. I need music. I miss my friends. I want ice cream. Can someone choke me already? I can’t wait for summer break. I hate life. I want a dagger. If someone tried to kill me, how would I escape?

I snapped out of my thoughts when a random wave of energy came over me. I hopped off the bed and grabbed my headphones and my phone. I connected my headphones and played my “yessuh” playlist which included upbeat and hype songs. I ran downstairs while yelling the lyrics out and started walking around the house, dancing. I didn’t notice Amira walked in until I saw a shadow in the corner of my eye.

“OH SHIT,” I accidentally blurted out. “Profanity ma’am,” she said, setting her bag down. I paused my music and walked to the fridge to get water. “Where’s mom?,” she asked me as I handed her water. “She’s doing stuff. I don’t know,” I shrugged my shoulders. I sat down at the island while I scrolled through my phone.

I smiled and swiped the icon to the left. “HEY HERMOSA” he yelled. He was laying down with a bunch of grey fluff all around him. “HEY BAE” I smiled. I stood my phone up, leaning it against my mirror as I did my hair. Rio just sat on the other side of the line and watched me. “You’re beautiful” he whispered. Hearing that just made my heart warm up. “No, you are, pretty boy”.

Me and Rio ended up talking for hours until he had to go. I hung up and put my phone on the charger next to my bed. I tied up my braids in a bun and took off all my jewelry. It was still pretty early in the day but I was truly exhausted. I slipped off my jeans and put on a pair of black basketball shorts. I made sure my ringer was on and slipped under the covers. I slowly fell under a deep and solemn slumber.
