Prologue
They were never meant to be, as a matter of fact if two people were polar opposites, and shouldn’t date, and let alone get married these were two people that fit that description and yet they still met, and they still fell in love. This wasn’t meant to be we are talking about, this was just two people who liked each other, and they dated he proposed because he thought that she could be the one, but she wasn’t more about that later. Lucy and Ethan were two people from two different worlds, her from the upper class world of southern society, and him from the middle class, and he was from a different country he was here because he had family here. The two of them officially met the summer before their freshman year of college, but they didn’t start dating till the fall of that year because of the fear that their families wouldn’t approve of it. Lucy was one that was always told that she should find an equally rich man, and if her family could arrange the marriage for her they would, and Ethan’s parents were a lot more relaxed, but they always despised rich entitlement. Why it was that parents, and family should have a say in who their children marry they would never know, but then again these were people that had planned out the life that Lucy would lead even before she was a teenager. In Ethan’s case his parents only wanted what was best for him, and this was good because he had the freedom to make his own choices, and he could make his own mistakes in life. Nobody ever understood what they saw in each other, maybe it was her blonde hair because he had only dated brunettes in his life time and maybe he wanted to change it up. What she saw in him she wouldn’t ever know, even though he was handsome, had a great personality, and he was everything that she had always imagined herself dating and she was rebelling in a way.
When they were freshman at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, AL where she had lived all of her life, and where he had spent some time but they hadn’t ever passed each other before until the one day in the coffee shop. That was the day of fall that would change everything, Lucy and Ethan had both seen each other, in that same coffee shop the summer before and it would be known as their coffee shop, important moments for them happened, at that coffee shop so they started referring to it as “ours”. This was all in the past now, but they wouldn’t know this at this moment in time, they were just way to busy liking each other, nobody was sure if the term love could even be used for what they were to one another. You see Lucy’s family was known around Tuscaloosa, AL because they had been in the location for so long, and it was said that her family was some of the earliest people in that town and they were all lawyers, or doctors. They were enjoying each other’s company, but the term love was not a word that could really be used to describe them because they hadn’t used that term themselves. He was a Food&Nutrition major, and she was studying English she wanted to be a teacher, and he wanted to open up a restaurant one day they were both once again completely opposite from one another, so how did they mesh so well, some people say it was because they were opposites. When they were twenty one they found out the thing that would change all of their lives forever, Lucy was going to have a baby while they didn’t know the gender of the baby yet they would find out that it was a girl. Everything was changed, and luckily Lucy was able to finish out most of her junior year, and her daughter was due to be born in June, and so she would be on maternity leave starting in mid-April.
The couple got married in February of the year that they were going to have their daughter, it was on February 12th nineteen ninety five. No one, okay will maybe everyone but Lucy and Ethan weren’t listening to them could foresee the fact they wouldn’t work out, and that the marriage wouldn’t be the happiest of marriages with all of the bickering that went on between them. “No one ever said that we were terrible for each other, and no one ever said that we wouldn’t make it the rest of our lives” Lucy yelled at him one night exasperated. “Everyone we know did Lucy, but seeing was we were in love, or I was in love I don’t know what you want to call what you were, rebelling, only liking me, only getting married because it was the right thing to do at the time, I don’t know I’m not you, but I love you.” This was said to Lucy by Ethan following the conversation that they had, it was late March now late at night and you could tell by the pitch black outside. Why they got married, or even found each other in the first place no one would ever know, but just like any normal couple would they tried, and they failed the marriage was a mistake it would seem. On the last night of winter, March 20th nineteen ninety five Lucy almost walked out completely, but this would be harmful for daughter seeing it wasn’t exactly her fault that things didn’t work our between Lucy and Ethan. April, May, and June were kind of a blur with Lucy being moody, pregnancy did this to people she was told, and Ethan trying to make her as happy as he could god help the man he tried. Now as the due date was drawing closer a week before she was due, they deiced they would stick it out for the first year, not that Eden would ever see this, and she also would know her mother.
