Chapter I

I scream and sit up, almost giving myself whiplash. I had that dream again, fun. Please note the sarcasm. Anyway, I look at my alarm and see it’s only 6:30 in the morning. I sigh, rub my face, stretch and get out of bed. I head over to my closet and grabbed my red and black checkered shirt, ripped bootcut jeans, and anything else I needed, and went to take a shower. As the hot water washed over me, I went through a checklist in my head making sure I had everything I needed.

A few minutes later, I get out, dry myself off and get dressed. I check the time and see it is only 7 o’clock. I go into the kitchen and get myself a KitKat, yes a KitKat for breakfast. I then go back to my room and grab my glasses off of my nightstand. I blink a few times and adjust my eyes. I grab my phone and keys, then go to get my backpack from the living room. I put my shoes on, grabbed my keys, and left.

After a few minutes of walking, I finally make it to Angelwood Pines High School...without getting lost this time. Anyway, I head inside and hear a bunch of whispers such as, “Who is she” and, ”Damn, she’s cute“. I smile in my head and keep walking until I get to the principal’s office. I talk to the secretary and explain the situation. She tells me to take a seat, and that she will let the principal know that I was there.

After about ten minutes, I was told I was allowed to see the principal. I nod and thank the secretary, then head down the corridor towards the last door. I take another deep breath and knock. A few moments later, I hear a muffled voice, which sounds like it said, ‘Come in’, so I open the door slightly, walk into the room, and shut the door behind me. I walk closer to the desk and the principal. Ms. Maye, looks up and says, “Ah, you must be Lya Summers, correct?”

I nod and say, “Yes, that’s correct ma’am.” She nods and opens a drawer pulling out a piece of paper. She then grabs a pen and writes something down.

After a quick minute or two, she hands me the piece of paper, she added a locker number.

“Would you like a quick tour before class, Lya?” I nod, and Ms. Maye calls someone named James Flemming.

-James POV-

I got to class late so now I have detention. Great. At least I don’t have to do any work. I just put my head down when I heard the principal call me down to her office. I groaned, got up, and left.

After a few minutes, I got there and saw a girl standing close to the corner. I sigh, open the door, walk in, and pretend to ignore her.

“I’m here, now what?” I ask curiously but not really caring either.

-Lya’s POV-

After about 5 to 10 minutes, I hear the door open so I turned to see who it was. A boy walks in, and crosses his arms, standing next to me saying, “I’m here, now what?“, sounding like he really didn’t wanna be there.

Ms. Maye speaks up. “Well James, as I am sure you’re aware, we have a new student.” She gestures to me “This is Lya, I would like you to give her a quick tour, please.”

As she gestures to me, I see him look at me from the corner of his eye, almost like he is glaring at me.

I look away from James and look back toward Ms. Maye after I see him nod his head in I think agreement. Ms. Maye once again pipes up saying, “Alright Lya, you are all set, and next month we will be assigning dorms.” We take that as our cue to leave and we exit the principal’s office.

As I look over my schedule and then look back up, I notice James looking at me, so I hold my schedule out for him to take and scan, which he does. After like a second, he hands me my schedule back and walks off, saying, “Let’s go.” I nod and follow him.

Once we were done with the tour, he dropped me off at my 3rd class, which hasn’t started yet.

“Thank you, James. I appreciate it.” I say, smiling at him. He nods and walks to his class.

I take a deep breath and open the door to the classroom seeing that there are not a lot of people.

I go to the back corner of the classroom near the window and sit down. A few more people trickle in and then pretty soon the bell rings for class to start. The teacher comes in and stands in the front, clearing her throat.

“Good morning class, so today we have a new student. Lya, please stand.” I stand and wave slightly. I then sit back down, as the teacher began teaching.

Pretty soon, it is finally time for lunch. I try to be one of the first ones there so I can grab my lunch and sit down. I had just sat down when a boy and a girl came and sat in front of me.

“Hey, I’m Ashley. This is Noah. What’s your name?” The girl, Ashley asks. “My name is Lya, Lya Summers. Nice to meet you two.” Noah nods in acknowledgment and starts speaking. “So Lya, may I ask where you’re from.” I nod, “I am from a small town, Adler Falls. Not many people know about it.”

They nod and we go silent as we start eating. Pretty soon, lunch is over and it is now time for 4th period. My fourth period is PE. I go to the gym and notice James is there. He looks over at the door, where I’m standing, and I wave shyly. I then make my way over to the teacher, telling her that I am new, and I don’t have clothes to switch out into. She says it's alright and that today is going to be an easy day for everyone. I nod and walk off to the bleachers and sit until the teacher stands in front of the class after the tardy bell.

“Today will be a free day if you can be efficient in your warmup. You have one minute to change and line up on the line.” She says. After about 30 seconds, everyone is on the line, and we begin the warmup. It takes about 5 minutes to finish it. Once we finish our last lap, the teacher says we have free time now, meaning we can use any gym equipment.

I go straight for the basketball, dribbling it a few times to make sure that it is not flat. I then walk over to the hoop that is the furthest from anyone and I do a few shots up close, and then I try a 2-pointer, and then last but not least, I try the 3-pointer. I keep shooting from the three-pointer for a while.

After my last shot, the bell rang, so I picked up the ball and went to put it back on the basketball rack.

The day is finally over, and thankfully it’s Friday. I walk out of the school when Ashley and Noah come up to me. “Hey Lya, how was your first day?” Noah asks. “It was pretty good, the school is pretty nice,” I say, smiling slightly. They nod, “Well, see you tomorrow, Lya.” Ashley says, waving as they walk off. I wave back and sigh tiredly. I shake my head and walk home.

I make it home in about 20 minutes. And I unlock the door, toss my bag on the ground next to it taking off my shoes. I head into the kitchen and grab a thing of instant ramen. I started the kettle with just enough water to fill up the cup. I then go change into a t-shirt and sweats, after pulling up my hair into a ponytail bun thing. I head back into the kitchen and made it just in time for the water to be done. I open the ramen and put the sauce, and vegetables in, then I pour the water and the seasoning packet. I then close the lid and let it sit for a few minutes while I grab it and go sit in the living room.

I curl up on the couch and turn on the tv to watch Heartland. I then open the lid to my noodles and I start eating. I made it to episode 12 of season three when I finished my ramen. I go throw away my cup and wash my fork, then go lay down.

I turn on Spotify and drift to sleep. Thank god it’s Friday.
