video games & virtual lovers
i lost you in the early morning hours,
under the waning crescent moonlight
that creeps through our dark blue curtains that you bought to keep out the sun,
but i keep pulled to the side so that its warmth will fill the room and wrap its arms around me.
i couldn’t find you in the shadows that cower in the corners
of our empty apartment,
or under the covers of our bed too full of pillows and sleepy animals.
instead i found you hiding behind the bright computer screen,
naked and laughing at an online friend,
or perhaps a virtual lover you’ve spent more time with than
all of the time you’ve spent with me.
