you put me on a pedestal for everyone one to see

but when you got tired of the attention

you pulled the pedestal from beneath my feet

you didn’t like it when other people stared at me

so you made me cover up, as if my body was just too much

and god forbid anyone touch what is yours

i sat on the floor that night wondering when i stopped being mine

somewhere along the line, i settled for less when i wanted more

once a fighter, i stopped defending myself in your cold war

the problem was never me

the problem was that i was never yours to keep

you see, you can’t keep a bird caged forever

one day it will get free
