Picture this:
You're eight years old.
Your best friend is beside you
In the water,
And you slip under
To listen to the deafening silence,
To peer through the clear blue,
Eyes stinking from chlorine.
And everything's alright.
Picture this:
You're fourteen years old,
No longer a child,
Not yet an adult.
And for the first time,
Someone calls you beautiful.
And you're glowing.
And everything's alright.
Picture this:
You're seventeen,
And his hand slips into yours,
Making the stars align.
You're in way over your head,
Dizzy with love.
And everything's alright,
Picture this:
You're twenty-two,
Making your way through life,
Stressing over bills,
Studying for college exams.
You cry yourself to sleep every night.
And then your brother calls,
Tells you he loves you.
And everything's alright.
Picture this:
You're thirty-eight,
With kids of your own,
A beautiful wife,
You're so in love with.
You drop your kids off at school,
And drive to work,
Smiling to yourself.
And everything's alright.
Picture this:
You're sixty-four,
In an over-crowded hospital room,
And you're holding your grandchild,
With a tear in your eye,
And a laugh in your throat.
And everything's alright.
Picture this:
You're ninety-eight,
Lying beside the love of your life.
The sun is setting on your life,
But you smile as you close your eyes.
Because everything's alright.
