I Remember

Hey. It’s me. Do you remember?

I do.
And I think it’s time someone reminded you.
There was a time,
In the winter.

Oh God it was cold.
So, so cold.
There was frost and snow and ice.
But I remember that winter
When you held me.
It was us against the world.

I remember that winter
When I was the only thing you saw.
No one else mattered to you.

I remember that winter
When you held my hand in the dark.
You held my hand when no one else would.
It was so cold outside.
But you walked with me,
And you talked with me,
And you held my hand in the winter.

I remember that winter
When we walked through the narrow streets,
Everyone’s stare tearing through us
With such criticism.
But you didn’t care
And neither did I
In that winter air.

I think it was December
When you kissed my frozen lips
And breathed life into me again.
I remember that winter
When my soul could once again feel.

I remember that winter
When I was the one you desired.
Not him.

I remember that winter
When I meant so much more to you
Than I do now.

That winter is gone.
Do you remember it?
I used to be the one who made you happy.
I don’t know what I am now.

But I remember that winter
When I did know.
I will never forget it.
