Amongst Distractions, I Hear You
I know she breathes beneath my spine,
For her viridian embrace protects me.
I feel primal love’s pull among,
A sea of men who drill to become,
Masters of the burnt umber floor.
Mother earth, I’ll never forsake thee.
And amongst distractions, I hear you.
You begin as the augury of leaves.
Foliage trembles at your ghastly call,
You transform to an omen after fall.
You are the whipping wind that chills,
As I lay in the afterthoughts of trees.
I know your love relieves me,
You retreat from clouds just in time.
My skin is fatigued ’til you graze,
Humidity’s choke is abrased.
You are the welcome rainstorm,
And all the sodden day’s clime.
Past the atmosphere you continue.
You evince the void’s promising light,
That sing to heavens I can’t conceive,
Like hope that new love brings past grief.
You’re the stars that trail the universe,
And the abiotic worlds that ignite.
