Raven's Song

The raven crowed.

Perching and observing on stone.

Amongst the sea of gravel.

The raven crowed.

The moonlight gleamed on its soul.

Nothing could deter her from her duty.

The raven crowed -…

Alas, what is this?

What is this soul that stumbles?

The raven watched.

Weary with rusted arms,

Blades shattered, helmets torn.

The raven hopped closer.

It collapsed. Chains shattered.

Cracks split, howls echoed.

I cannot stand…

“This soul… It is hurt.

But I am a raven.

Should I not have quoted - nevermore?”

Feathers fell, black to white.

Step by step, with nothing withheld.

The raven drew closer.

Once amber black, once a creature.

Claws no more; with hands to hold.

The raven cawed no more.

A beak it once was.

But now, with attempted gentleness.

That did the deed that only hands did.

A desire only hands knew.

The raven smiled gently.

“Why quote “nevermore”?

When I have already vowed,

“Forevermore?”
