Drowning the Sorrows

I will not deny

how much he did try

to conquer that demon inside

But in the end

he let it win

because it was his pride

A pride that took

a pride that lied

a pride that would not give

A pride that won

and cost this man

his only reason to live

With tears of rage

and sobs of pain

he tried to turn the page

But lo and behold

the story was told

he could not make the change

So another beer he downed

for his sorrows to drown

while he sat there all alone

With a heave of regret

he would just forget

and try again tomorrow

Again and again

he played his regrets

over in his head

But there came a day

he could no longer replay

or even say her name
