Sleep

Taking a deep breath, I close my eyes

Ugh, I’m tired of counting sheep

I need to sleep.

My fingers twitch, my body trembles
Waiting for my alarm to beep

I need to sleep.

Energy drained yet can’t keep still
Almost making me want to weep

I need to sleep.

Tangled in the sheets from twisting and turning
Dreams only come when it’s getting deep

I need to sleep.

Along with the sunrise
Comes finally finishing another night

I didn’t get to sleep.

My battle scars being panda eyes
From my lips come tired lies

I didn’t get to sleep.

My family is resigned
The doctors frown no longer tries to hide

I didn’t get to sleep.

Oxygen to the brain, check
Any disorders apply, denied

I still don’t sleep.

New pillows, new bed, new routine
Bamboo, a queen, plenty of time

I still don’t sleep.

What do you do when you cross
Trauma with experience?

You get an insomniac, who will never sleep
