I Wear My Skin

I wear my skin to appear like the others
I wear my skin to feel validation
I wear my skin for protection
I wear my skin for everyone except me
I wear my skin until I want to rip it off
I wear my skin until all I can do is itch
I wear my skin until it burns the thing that is me
I am not my skin, but my skin is me
And no one knows the real me
No one's ever gotten under my skin
And I'm afraid that no one ever will
