Night of a Thousand Stars

Why do I ponder on a misty hill?
Morning waits but over and under
While the fire’s blaze lights me
While it roars against the night

Night of a thousand stars
But where in the night are you?

I can see only my own hand
My pen pressed against the earth
Tracing circles inside circles
Loops within rings within moons

Why do I ponder on a misty hill?
Morning waits but over and under

I glance at the shadows in the east
Where morning will reveal gold
Meadows bound by towering trees

Night of a thousand stars
More and more I am losing myself

You are a shadow of a shadow
Your voice a whisper in the breeze
Your thoughts are my thoughts
Or my thoughts are yours?
I could never remember

Why do I ponder on a misty hill?
Morning waits but over and under

I am losing myself, losing, lost
All I have are words, this pen
Words that were once your words
Words in a letter you left me

Night of a thousand stars
More and more I am losing myself
Losing myself, losing, as I lost you.
