That Local Girl

She's a local girl, with larger than life dreams.

You can catch her at $10 admission shows; blended into the underground scene.

Pretty as a petal, but rough around the edges.

She tours the city, the nooks and crannies, and the unknown corners and ledges.

Her eyes see things in a different way, through her thick glasses' lenses.

And she lives her life carefree, without knowing that the possibilities for her are endless.

With buried hands in her pockets, she walks along the fences.

She aims to write songs sitting on summery park benches.

But what she doesn't seem to seek like many other girls her age, is undeserved attention.

Though she is gifted with great talent, she remains unpretentious.

She puts together beautifully lazy lyrics, with guitar in hand by a campfire.

She writes catchy tunes and words come to her with ease... Oh, the millions she could inspire.

She looks stunning wearing oversized band t-shirts and sweaters, with a hint of rock and roll.

And cherry pie red lips, harbouring billowing tendrils of cigarette smoke.

She'll put on a camouflage green trench coat when it's cold.

And snowflakes blend in to her porcelain skin as they land on her nose.

Her favourite faded, patchy denim vest was once a bright jean jacket; now torn with missing sleeves.

And sometimes she wonders if her life will fall apart as well; similarly fraying at the seams.

But she doesn't worry about her future too much; the thought to her is too scary.

Life can be so up in the air and uncertain, and these intimidating things leave her wary.

Although other things may be uncertain, all she knows is that music feels right.

And she turns to it whenever her emotions get the best of her; she knows music is her destiny in life.

Pretty as a petal, but rough around the edges.

She tours the city, the nooks and crannies, and the unknown corners and ledges.

What she may not know is one day; instead she'll be touring cities around the world.

And back home will be the only place she'll be referred to as "that local girl."
