Little Soldier - an original song

Verse 1:

She said, "These tears I finally cry have been held deep inside, barricaded behind a wall. But somehow they seem to have been able, to find all the cracks and fall."

I told her, "You still shouldn't worry, don't fret little darlin', just stay calm, collected, composed.

’Cause I got one thing to say to make it okay, so please do not oppose;

Chorus:

Just keep your chin up little lady, head held high, and continue standin' tall.

Keep on walkin', never look back or you might stumble, trip and fall."

"'Sticks and stones can break my bones' has forever been a lie."

You're tellin' me, "Name calling's worse, you can't ignore it 'matter how hard you try."

"But all I'm sayin' is fight till the war is over; I'm beggin' you please on my knees.

Keep on tryin', never surrender yourself, and be my little soldier."

Verse 2:

One day she walked in the door, home from school with devastation in her eyes.

I couldn't believe what I was seein' on her face, it shattered my heart like ice.

I was so surprised and speechless, but I managed to say, "How was school?"

Suddenly she ran to her room and slammed the door while I stood there like a fool.

Chorus:

"Just keep your chin up little lady, head held high, and continue standin' tall.

Verse 3:

I woke up to hear her screamin' for help, in the middle of the night.

I threw off the covers, and rushed to her room as my name, was called with fright.

She said, "I'm so sorry Mama, I really am, but I lied to you today."

And while I held her, she told me her story of when, she went outside to play.

Bridge:

Then I whispered in her ear, "Honey, please don't you cry.

I know that girl hurt you, and pushed you down on the ground, but you didn't have to lie.

Do you remember Daddy, out at war, as he fought but didn't win?

Well from now on you're gonna be strong like he was, and start to fight for him."

Chorus:

"Just keep your chin up little lady, head held high, and continue standin' tall.

Keep on tryin', never surrender yourself, and be my little soldier, be my little soldier.

You’re always gonna be my little soldier.
