May Twenty-Second

I miss you.

You always said things; things that broke my heart.
But I was still your sunbeam.
I was young but then I knew
It was hard sometimes to talk to you.

I grew up a little and you never seemed to age.
I was careless and free
You were careful and cautious for me.

I was thirteen when you fell
My teenage life seemed to change in seconds.
I was never going to be an ordinary child after that day;
The twenty-second of May.

I remember what you said -

You want me to be happy in my own head.
Then was when I realised that it would all be cut short.

I’m happy to tell you I found someone.
Someone I want to spend the rest of my life with.
He has wonderfully blue eyes and he has the smell I want to wake up to every day of my future.

But, I don’t know what you would think of he.
Would you tell me he is perfect for me?

Or will you tell me I should walk away before my heart shatters?

I try to forget about you, sometimes.
Only because it’s easier.
But then I remember, that more than anyone else possibly could:

I miss you.
