Identically Different

I'm looking everywhere except up
Because I fear what's on my ceiling.
It's a monster.
It's calling me.
It's telling me to look up.
It's telling me it knows me.

"Go on, little one.
Lift your little head.
Look yourself in the eye
And acknowledge that you
Are what you see.

A monster..."

"You are horrible
You are a terror
None will go near
For they fear your appearance.
You are the one that haunts them.
Tirelessly, mercilessly
You are their deepest,
Darkest nightmare.

"Look at me, child!
Declare me a part of you!
Accept me into your being!
I am you
And you are me.
Different in looks
But identical in ways.
Separate in form
But joined in desire.
An innocent lie
Hiding a dreadful truth."

I shake my head
Denying its words
But my heart beats otherwise
It feels it in my soul.

"Truth, truth"
It pumps through my veins.
"Accept, accept"
It drums in my ears.
"Become, become"
It pulses in my mind.

I have lost all direction.
I have lost all sense.
I have lost my humanity
To the darkness within.
