Dessert Placed in an Ashtray

The fur coat chaperoned

a new-found warmth’s arrival

but on her looked more a dress

or that she was wearing less underneath

I was caught off-guard by the indecency of it all

but when put in context it matters little

stranded outside her intimate circle

it gives me the opportunity

to think as someone else

balancing ego and the importance of self-worth

like a dessert placed in an ashtray

or wine served from a gravy boat

does it matter the vessel

if the content itself is useful?

she was my beautiful distraction

from the seriousness of life I follow

in the way that an energy saving light bulb

has kept the mood far from bright until now

I took to domestication in its most natural form

like a stiff-arm awakening to a hello

to all those before the fourth wall is breached

and my role to play through gritted teeth

especially when running late to the last farewell

Laraine Smith: My only suggestion on the grammar is to use www.grammarcheck.net. I have it bookmarked on Google Chrome. I see myself in the determination in this beautiful story! I have Cerebral Palsy, and I have dreams that I have been working hard for, too! The humor made me laugh!

Marijana1: The melancholy present throughout this story has the power to influence and etch into the minds of the readers, to stay there and refuse to leave even after they have finished reading the story. This is a deep, powerful story, making the readers wonder about everything – about love, about their e...

Ilanea Zavala: I loved it and well I really hope you continue writing more to the story.

William Elliott Kern: Long story, the plot uncovered midway through the story. From beginning, the story was fast moving. Then dragged on for quite some time. Wendi Getz: Very powerful and moving story! A great read, especially for young women. I loved how it pulled the reader down the slippery slope that is domestic abuse and gave us an inside view of how easy it is to end up in that situation.

Mercurial._.Unicorn: I never knew that one of my favourite childhood cartoons could turn into such a beautiful story. Tho there are many grammatical errors and writing errors, this story warmed my heart to 100%. I would definitely want this book to get published and I would also buy it. It’s amazing character develop...

Ro-Ange Olson: This is such a different romance story. I loved it. The book was very long and could be split into 2-3 books in my opinion, but I'd hate to have to wait to read the next part too. I loved the chapter from Darius's point of view. It was a really different way for the writer to cover time and also ...
