Tears of War

Soldiers march into the train one-by-one

Some have smiles, some are grim, some have tears

They won’t come home until the war is won

But they all feel it; that slight twinge of fear


They are gone, across the sea, with guns drawn

They shoot and shoot, but they begin to fall

Both sides pray, but their enemies go on

Some try to get away, their walk a crawl


The injured are mended, the dead counted

Some sit and wonder what they’re fighting for

They think of the soldiers lost, tears are shed

Years are lost, then one day it’s all over


Young and old return to deafening cheers

Only the soldiers know of all the tears
