“Rochelle-I-don’t-know-your-middle-name-Smith! You are putting this on right now!” Sabrina yelled.
She showed me a hot pink mini dress. It looked tight and would barely cover my bottom. I looked at the scrap of clothing on my body in horror.
“Number one, it’s Marie. Second, I will never wear that in a million years. It will barely cover my ass. I don’t want to remind Cole of Victoria.” I reprimand.
Sabrina took me to the mall and started dragging me to different stores. It’s been three hours and apparently, we still aren’t done yet. I groan. My legs are going to fall off soon if I don’t get a break soon. I didn’t realize Sabrina was a shopaholic. She always wears jeans and hoodies like me, so I assumed she didn’t rest go crazy with shopping.
Looks must be deceiving then.
“I’m sorry missy, are you complaining?” Sabrina said, narrowing her eyes at me. I gulp and shake my head. “And for the record, I doubt the first thing on Cole’s mind will be that bitch when he sees you in that dress.”
“Come on Rochelle! I skipped school for this and your date with Cole is in...” she checked her phone and let out a shrill scream. Everyone turned to us, making my face turn red in embarrassment.
“Eight hours! We barely have time to do your hair and makeup at this point if we aren’t able to find something for you to wear!” She wailed and I tried to get her to calm down. I thought I was supposed to be the one panicking, not her!
We started searching through the racks again, trying to find the perfect outfit for tonight. After another hour, we decided to get some lunch before we start our search again.
We decided to go to a popular restaurant attached to the mall. Once we were seated, a waiter came to our table.
“Well hello, ladies. What would you fine women want to order?” the waiter said flirtatiously. I tried not to cringe. The waiter was cute and all, with red locks and green eyes, but Cole outranks him by a long shot.
“Can I have a double cheeseburger with a side of fries? Some coke would be great too, thank you.” Sabrina said politely, eyeing me and the waiter.
“I’ll have the same,” I mumbled, hoping the waiter would leave.
“Coming right up, ladies.” he winked and sauntered away.
“What a prick,” Sabrina mumbled. I couldn’t agree more.
We talked and laughed about things like school and Victoria’s seduction skills.
“She always purses her lips when she tries to get attention. Did you notice? It’s hilarious. She looks like she has a duck face!” Sabrina laughs hysterically. I laughed with her and laughed harder when she began to snort. I haven’t had this much fun in forever.
“Ladies, did you miss me?”
We both groaned out loud. Damn it he’s back.
“Not really.” Sabrina snapped.
“Feisty, I like it,” he said smoothly. Does this guy not give up?
“Can we have our food now, please?” I asked politely. Well, barely polite.
The waiter gave us our food and was about to leave until he trailed his hand down my arm. I felt goosebumps rise from my arm and shivered- not the good kind. The waiter smiled with success and dropped a napkin next to my plate.
“Enjoy,” he whispered and walked away to help the other customers. I stared at him, wide-eyed. What a pervert.
“Personally, I am ready to deck him. How dare he?!” Sabrina said furiously.
“Relax Sabrina. It’s alright. Let’s just forget it.” I brush off.
I put the napkin in my back pocket. Sabrina reluctantly agreed and then smirked. I looked at her curiously.
“I’m just thinking how Cole will react when he finds out,” Sabrina said slyly, a mischievous look on her face.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said confused.
Sabrina kept her smirk on.
“Whatever you say.” she sang. I rolled my eyes and took a huge bit of my burger. After we devoured our food, we paid at the front and left. And trust me, there was no tip for the creepy waiter.
“Okay Rochelle, there’s only one store left. We have to find your dress here. If not, I will pick whatever I want.” she said.
Please be here. I don’t want to be turned into Victoria.
Determined, I marched into the store. I went through rack by rack, desperate to find a dress for my date. I want this to be perfect. But I couldn’t find anything.
I was about to give up until I saw something out of the corner of my eye. I pulled it out and gasped. It was beautiful. I went into the changing room and put it on. I looked into the mirror. It was perfect.
It was a light blue-grey dress that reached mid-thigh. The color made my tan skin pop out. Spaghetti straps secured the dress and showed off my shoulders. I loved it.
I opened the stall door and showed Sabrina to examine it. She gasped.
“I LOVE IT!” she squealed. I let out a sigh of relief. No hot pink dresses.
Happily, we paid for it and went back to Cole’s house.
“Why did you and Derrick break up?” Sabrina asked.
I tensed. I looked for a way to tell her without revealing anything. She doesn’t know anything about Derrick.
“Derrick was a terrible boyfriend and he hit me once. After that, I broke it off with him.” I said with truths mixed with lies. Mostly it was the truth. He was a terrible boyfriend.
“What?! How dare he! Next time I see him, I am going to strangle him!” she raged. I smiled. She’s so protective.
We made it to Cole’s driveway and I got out, thanking Sabrina for the trip.
“I’ll be back, I just need to pick up my stuff,” Sabrina called out as I shut the car door.
I ran to the door and opened it. When I closed the door, I was turned around and pinned to the wall. Before I could react, lips crashed against mine. I practically melted at the touch.
“I missed you,” Cole mumbled against my lips. I giggled and pulled back to smile at him.
“I missed you too. But I need to get ready upstairs. Sabrina is coming back to help me.” I replied pulling away from him. He pouted.
“But I just got to see you,” he pouted childishly.
I rolled my eyes playfully at him.
“You have me all to yourself tonight,” I said winking at him and walking up the stairs to a guest room the Roberts gave me.
I can’t wait for tonight.
