COLE

Everything had been quiet.

Too quiet.

After Rochelle broke Victoria’s nose, Victoria and Derrick haven’t done anything. I still didn’t trust them. It didn’t matter if they weren’t bothering us. I felt paranoid with those two around.

They were a threat to Rochelle’s safety and it was my job to protect her.

Right now, I was waiting for Rochelle in front of the school, nervously pacing back and forth.

For the last two weeks, Rochelle had been spending time in detention as her punishment for breaking Victoria’s nose. Even though she wasn’t very excited, Rochelle accepted her punishment with relief. Her parents wouldn’t have been happy if she got suspended. Even though they weren’t happy with her actions, I saw the pride in their eyes.

Unfortunately, it was unsettling for me since I wasn’t allowed in the detention room unless I got into trouble as well. I had a few ideas in my head, but Rochelle refused to let me get in trouble just to see her.

So there I was- a nervous wreck of a boyfriend looking longingly through a classroom window.

“If it isn’t the boy who stole my girlfriend.”

I tensed as I turned around to see Derrick Thompson leaning on my motorcycle.

“Get off my bike, Thompson.” I gritted out.

He raised an eyebrow at me. The corner of his mouth raised into a smirk, knowing he was ticking me off.

“Nah, I’m comfy here, but thanks. Listen, we need to talk. Man to man. Look, I know we are not best of friends-”

I broke him off with the snort. Friends? Not in this lifetime.

He ignored me and continued.

“-but I think we still have a bro code. Bros before hoes? Well, I would just like to take back my hoe and I can be on my way. No one gets hurt. Good deal right?” He said innocently.

I looked at him, furious. How dare he talk about Rochelle like that? He isn’t serious is he? No way in hell is Rochelle going with him. Over my dead body. I pulled on a blank expression to mask my fury.

“Well I think your hoe isn’t here right now. Victoria is probably throwing herself at someone right now. And didn’t you just call me a ‘the boy who stole your girlfriend’? You are not really a good bro for insulting my manliness. So, no thanks.” I smirked as his formed into a scowl.

He started to turn red. I smirked even more at this. Someone has anger management issues. He took a step towards me and hissed.

“Listen Cole, you don’t know what you’re up against. My friends and I can make your life a living hell. You are only putting yourself and your friends in serious danger at this point. I don’t give a shit about your bond between Rochelle. I need her.” he snarled.

“Why do you need Rochelle so bad? You know you aren’t taking her away from me.” I growl taking a step closer to him.

It was his turn to smirk again.

“Isn’t it obvious? What’s the fun in telling you now?” he chirped and shrugged playfully, which made my annoyance grow. “If you aren’t going to give me Rochelle, fine. Guess we have to do this the hard way,” Derrick was about to leave, before saying, “And Delivery Boy? I have a message for you. Don’t forget to tell our precious leader- the Nightmares are rising soon. They just won’t see it coming.”

He went into his Mercedes and drove away without looking back.

My breathing was starting to speed up as my vision began to see red. Son of a -

“Cole? Are you alright?” a sweet voice asked.

I kept staring at the road, trying to reign in my anger. I don’t want to snap at her, none of this was her fault.

My breathe hitched as warm hand wrapped around my neck, slowly massaging the back of my neck. My muscles began to relax and my vision began to clear. I looked at her and gave her a forced smile, while she looked at me worriedly.

“You’re scaring me Cole. What wrong?” Rochelle said softly, but I can detect her panic and fear. Without responding, I took her to my bike. I make a note to myself to clean my bike. I don’t need Derrick’s germs all over my baby.

Throughout the drive, I felt Rochelle’s anxiety increase and I felt guilty for leaving her in the dark. I didn’t want her to stress even more. I carefully placed my hand on her thigh and I almost smile as her body almost melted against me like putty.

That’s my girl.

When we get home, I helped her get down and gave her a quick hug and kiss on the forehead.

“I know you hate not knowing, but you are about to find out in a few seconds. We need to tell everyone.” I murmured and I felt Rochelle nod against my lips. I reluctantly pull away as I grabbed her hand and took her into the house.

I run to the kitchen, dragging Rochelle along with me. Everyone was in the kitchen eating a snack, watching us curiously.

I sighed and pulled Rochelle closer to me as everyone tensed at my expression.

“We have a problem.”

ROCHELLE

Derrick threatened Cole?

This isn’t good. Not good at all. I wantED to beat the crap out of him for doing that, but I’m not stupid enough to try- for now.

I felt completely useless when I knew I could help everyone. I really think I’m the only one that can get to Derrick. He’s after me in the first place, why not let it be me to go after him? Of course, I think this is also a good idea. If I go, no one else gets hurt. Everyone is safe.

Don’t you even think about, I heard a growl in my head.

Crap. I forgot to block him again.

It’s the only-

“No! We are not using you as bait!” Cole snapped, not bothering to use the mind-link.

Everyone looked at him strangely and gave me looks of disapproval because they knew exactly what he was talking about. I’ve been trying to convince everyone for two weeks, but they wouldn’t budge.

Especially Cole.

“Cole, it’s the only way to get him. This needs to end before someone gets hurt. I won’t do this on my own. I need everyone’s help to pull this off.” I explained, trying to let him see my point of view.

Cole was about to protest until Charles broke in.

“Son, as much as we all hate to admit this, Rochelle may be right. Derrick is hellbent to get Rochelle. Why don’t we use that against him and set a trap?” Charles suggested.

“I don’t want my daughter getting hurt, Charles. There has to be another way.” Dad said stubbornly.

“Henry, Rochelle may be right. This may be the only option. I don’t want Rochelle at stake more than you do, but we don’t have a foolproof plan. And the message that Derrick gave Cole? We are running out of options and we need a plan.” Mom interjected slowly.

I see my brother and father looking at each other, trying to read the others thoughts. Eventually, Kyle sighed.

“Dad, they may be right. We have nothing right now. Rochelle may be our chance to get that son of a bitch.” Kyle said in defeat.

Dad sighed. I felt bad for him. I knew he only wanted to protect me, his little girl. But we don’t have a choice anymore. This conflict needs to end. Now.

“Alright. And how are we going to do this?” Dad said tiredly.

“I actually have an idea.” I said quietly.

While I was explaining my plan, I realized how quiet Cole had been. He hasn’t said a word since we argued.

“Alright, I will call some Somnias for reinforcements. They will have to stay here.” Dad said, taking out his phone.

While he was making phone calls, I dragged Cole upstairs to my room. Cole stiffly walked in and I took a deep breath. How was I supposed to convince him everything would be okay?

Once I closed the door, I kissed him softly hoping it would convey my feelings of love and support. He shocked me by kissing me roughly. His kiss was harsh and demanding as he desperately pushed me against the door. He tilted my head up to have better access to my mouth and I moaned at the sensation. I could feel the fear and anger into the kiss. I could tell we both needed this as I grabbed his hair to pull him closer to me.

Cole’s hands slowly went down my waist to my hips. I was distracted by the sensation that I almost didn’t notice him going to the back of my thighs. Sensing what he wanted, I jumped to wrap my legs around his waist, his hands supporting my thighs. I marveled at the new height difference and kissed him harder. I was burning and didn’t want to cool down anytime soon.

I pulled back, making Cole groan in protest. He tried to chase my lips, but as I kissed his neck firmly he froze, stopping all his complaints at once. His grip on me increased as I kissed down his neck and he whimpered as I nibbled on his collar bone. I smiled against his skin as I kissed my way back up to kiss around his jaw and leaned in to bite his earlobe.

I gasped as I am laid on the bed. Cole crashed his lips against mine once more, controlling the kiss as I held his body close to mine.

After a few more minutes of kissing, we pulled back, trying to catch our breath.

“Better?” I panted as he nuzzled his face into my neck.

“Hmm?” He mumbled and I shivered from his warm breathe against my flushed skin.

“I know you aren’t okay with the plan,” I sat slowly and Cole pulls back to look at me. “But I don’t want anyone getting hurt because of me. I want to end this Cole and I will have you by my side when that happens.” I said softly.

Cole looked at me intensely and I stared back, admiring his features. I can’t believe that he’s mine.

“Promise me,” he breathed. “Promise me you’ll stay safe.”

I look at him and his blue orbs.

“I promise.” I say with a soft smile.

Cole gave me a smile in return and pressed his lips against mine again.

Tomorrow, everything is going to change. It needs to end.

Little did I know what was going to happen next.

Everything has been quiet.

Too quiet.

“Isn’t it obvious? Apparently you guys haven’t figured it out. What’s the fun in telling you now?” he chirped.
