I gulped as I stared at the school entrance before turning to see Cole leaning against his bike from across the parking lot.
Operation ‘Capture Derrick’ is underway.
The plan was pretending I was going to school alone because Cole and I had a ‘fight’. Derrick would think I’m vulnerable and confront me. What he didn’t know was that Cole would be hiding in plain sight and capture him, then drag him to the house. Sounds easy, right?
Wrong. So wrong.
We went to school and tried to act natural for a couple who just had a fight. Key word was tried.
Cole was tense the whole time, eyeing his surroundings while I was shaking like a chihuahua with too much caffeine in its system.
So as you can see, we are great actors.
I slowly made my way to my locker, glimpsing at Cole longingly. Looking at his clenched jaw, I can see he’s doing everything he can to stay rooted to his spot. I sighed before making my way to my locker.
I looked around for our friends but couldn’t spot them.
I felt myself start to chicken out. I knew this was the right thing to do, but that didn’t mean I’m not terrified. I wished for Cole’s touch to calm me, but that would blow our cover.
I took a deep breath.
I could handle this. I could do this. I believe-
I was pulled away from my locker and my eyes snapped open. Derrick was holding my arm, smirking.
I couldn’t handle this.
“Hey babe. I missed you.”
“Hey....Derrick. What’s new?” I stutter.
He looked at me confused. I don’t blame him, I usually stink at these situations. I opened my mind link so Cole can listen in.
I tried to pull in my acting skills and tried to look annoyed- which really wasn’t hard.
“Go away Derrick. I’m not in the mood.” I snapped as I slammed my locker shut. The bell began to ring and I marched my way to class. I felt Derrick grab my arm and pull me back.
I heard Cole growling in my head.
I’m fine, I reassure before turning and glaring daggers at him.
“Where’s your boy toy?” Derrick pouted.
“He’s not a toy and we are just having some space.” I stated and I high-five myself for sounding convincing.
“Rochelle, I miss you. How about we go back to our place and talk?” Derrick says. “I know fights with you are hard.” He says with mock sympathy.
“Excuse me? You can go to-” I got cut off from my outrage.
“I’d pick wisely my dear. Your friend Sabrina isn’t doing so well with that mouth of yours running.” Derricks tsks.
I tensed. What is he implying? He had Sabrina? What if he’s lying? But I can’t risk it.
“What did you do?” I growled, not even bothering to act.
“I just want to talk and Sabrina unwillingly decided that she’d help me.” Derrick smirked.
I weighed my options. I couldn’t let her get hurt. Kyle is going to freak.
“I’ll go.” I growled.
Derrick gave a victorious smirk and I wanted to smack it off his face.
“Then let’s go baby.” He purred.
I nodded stiffly and follow him outside to his Mercedes. I can sense Cole’s panic and felt a churning in my stomach from my own.
He has Sabrina. I can’t risk it. Time for plan B.
There was no plan B, Cole growled.
There is now.
I continued to feel the dread and panic flooding through him and I wished I could soothe him as Derrick starts the car. I turned and saw Cole hiding against the building. The shrubs made it easy for him to hide. My heart clenches as I see the panic on his face.
Don’t worry, I’ll be careful. The Somnia are coming to your house after school. Have them help you.
Before he can respond, I blocked him out.
Derrick puts the car on drive and we left the school and my love.
The car ride was silent and tense. Well, for me that is. Derrick was whistling to the radio, without a care in the world. That only made me more scared at his calm demeanor.
We made it to the old ‘home’ and got out. We entered the house and I inspected the room. I knew we weren’t alone.
“Welcome home, baby.” Derrick said and kissed my check.
I scowled at him and swiped my cheek from his germs.
“Where’s Sabrina?” I gritted.
“Oh Yacker over here? She just kept talking and talking, but I managed to silence her. BOYS!” Derrick called.
All the sudden, about ten men jumped into the room. They looked very intimidating. They were way taller than me and looked like they ate horses. They opened a closet door and I gasped as fear began to take over.
Sabrina was tied to a chair, squirming everywhere. She looked at me with horror filled eyes. Her shouting was muffled by the cloth in her mouth.
I clenched my jaw, a tear escaping my eye. I glared at Derrick fiercely.
“Let her go. She has nothing to do with this.” I yelled as I tried to make my way to her. One of the men grabbed me and pulled me away.
“Actually, I think she does. A little birdie told me that she has an infatuation with your brother. Now I have the extra I need for my plan.” Derrick smiled.
“You’re sick Derrick! Why the hell do you need us?” I shouted while I squirmed from his men’s hold.
Derrick moved closer to me.
“Soulmates are very powerful in our world, Rochelle. Or did you forget? Having the Somnia’s little princess belonging gave me power. The Nightmares could use you to overthrow the Somnias. But now that we have the future leader’s lover...” He grinned at Sabrina.
“She is just the cherry on top.” He chuckled.
“You sick bastard.” I gritted and made a move to lunge him. One of the men grabbed me. I was fighting him off but froze when I saw his face.
It was the waiter from the restaurant.
“Miss me Sweetheart? Should’ve gotten with me while you had a chance.” he smirked.
I think I’m going to be sick.
“Take them to the basement. We can redo the bonding ceremony soon.” Derrick ordered.
They dragged us down the steps. Once we were in the basement, they threw us into a cell. I felt air before my head slammed onto the wall. Groaning, I felt pain go through my back and my head.
I rubbed the back of my head and felt a headache start to form.
No response. I winced at the sharp pain that came immediately after.
I kept calling out to Cole in my mind until I stopped because the headache became too much. The headache must be the reason why I can’t contact him.
I hear a muffled noise and turned.
“Sabrina!” I groaned and I stumbled to get a distressed Sabrina.
I get up to untie her and removed the cloth in her mouth.
“What the fuck just happened?” she whispered, her breathing quick and heavy. I could tell that she was on a verge of a panic attack.
I sighed and grabbed her hands. I didn’t mean to get her into this mess.
“I’m sorry. I’m so so sorry.” My lip began to quiver.
That’s when I started to cry. No. Crying is an understatement. I broke down sobbing.
Sabrina hugged me and rubbed her hand up and down my back. Eventually, I calmed down and was left sniffling and hiccuping.
“Shhhh. It’s alright. I have a feeling none of this is your fault. How about you tell me everything form the beginning?” Sabrina says.
So I told her. I told her about my kidnapping, meeting Cole, my people, and soulmates. At first, it looked like she didn’t believe me. I didn’t really blame her.
“So you’re telling me there are such thing as soulmates? No way.” Sabrina brushed off.
“I don’t think you would be saying that if Kyle was next to you.” I mumbled. Sabrina blushed at the mention of his name.
“Do you like my brother?” I asked deviously, forgetting about our situation for a few moments. If I could get away from this nightmare for a few moments, I would take it.
“No!” Sabrina squeaked. Liar.
“Yes you do. Admit it. You just don’t want to be the cheesy ‘best friend falling for the best friend’s brother’ scenario.” I giggled.
She didn’t respond.
“Sabrina...” I trailed off teasingly.
She huffed, the tips of her ears turning red.
“Okay I like him. Happy now?” Sabrina muttered.
I jumped up and down. “I get a new sister in law!” I squealed.
“Woah! Slow your roll. There will be no marriage until later on in the future. Maybe.” Sabrina said in horror as she looked like a ripe tomato.
I pouted. We sat in silence for a while.
“Do you think someone will find us?” Sabrina whispered.
I looked at the wall.
“If I know anyone who is hell bent to find us-that’s Cole Roberts for you.” I say confidently.
Sabrina gives a small smile.
“He loves you, you know that right? Cole has never acted like this before. I can tell he’s fallen for you. He’s going to be stubborn with you. You guys are perfect for each other.” Sabrina said dreamily.
I blushed at that. He loves me? I let a girly sigh come out.
Save me soon Cole.
I just didn’t know how much time we have left.
