Chapter 14

It wasn’t more than ten seconds before we were kissing again, except this time we knew where we stood. I let go, I let myself get lost in him, and this time it was complete. His fingers entangled themselves in my hair, he placed his face in the curve of my neck and inhaled. I felt his lips set themselves on my skin, he kissed, taking his time, treasuring me.

He stopped and pulled back. “Are you sure about this.”

“More sure than I’ve ever been about anything in life Dominic.”

He smiled. “Good.”

Dominic’s hands moved from my hair, to my shoulders and down my arms. He stopped at my hands and squeezed before dropping to the hem of shirt, he pulled it up and over my body, freeing me from it he threw it to the ground. I unbuttoned his suit shirt, and he stopped moving, he focused on me. As I unbuttoned the last one, I push the shirt and vest off his shoulders. My hands ran over his hot skin and let out a breathy moan. His eyes were still on mine, but they were hazed over.

“I love you.” He said.

“You’re not going to get tired of saying that are you?” I smiled as I leaned closer to him.

“Never.” He took my mouth with his, and soon enough we were making out like teenage lovers on my bed, half naked, half clothed.

Before Dominic, sex had almost seemed like a chore. Like something I did because I could, not because I wanted to. Just making out had never been involved, building an orchestra of love and passion had never been the goal. This was different, this was everything.

Dominic’s hands were all over me all at once, he knew where to touch me and how. Somehow he knew my body better than I knew it. Through fumbled fingers and heart twisting kisses our clothes found their way to the pile on the floor. Dominic’s lips kissed my hip, while his fingers delved deeper, I arched at his touch, so expertly guided that I began to tremble.

I looked down at him, and watched him as he worshipped my body like it was the last thing he was ever going to do. His eyes flicked up and he smiled before moving his mouth across. I buckled as his tongue replaced his fingers, a slow rhythmic flicker sent me over the edge almost immediately. He held me in place with his hands, not allowing me to move away from a pleasure so acute my entire body tensed as I called out his name and grabbed at his hair. He moved up the bed, kissing me as he did so, I recovered quickly from my climax, hungry for more. I went to move to repay the favour but Dominic shook his head.

“I’m a ticking time bomb babe.” He murmured as his tongue licked my ear lobe. “Turns out I find being in love an incredible turn on.”

I smiled and he entered me with a quick thrust, filling me, and we fit together like a glove. We clung to one another, closing any and all gaps between us, and we become one. I wasn’t sure how I had ever been able to have sex without it being like this, without being in love, without making love.

“Lis.” He breathed out as he built up speed and force.

I moved with him, meeting his thrusts, with fervour. I felt him tense, his body began to shudder he kissed me once, then let his head fall on to my chest, His vulnerability spurred me on, he was willing to take his walls down for me. I let go with him, I let go and if he hadn’t been on top of me weighing me down, floating away could have been a real possibility.

He rolled off me, leaving his leg over mine, and his arm across my stomach.

“I love you.” I whispered.

“I love you too.”

We fell asleep still entwined in each other, love filling the room and us. When I woke I wasn’t filled with worry. I wasn’t scared this would end awkwardly. I knew were we stood and I was happy with it. I wasn’t a nothing, I was his.

“Morning Beautiful.” Dominic said as his eyes opened, he kissed me on the forehead.

“Morning.”

“I always sleep better with you beside me.” He said with a smile.

“I wonder why that is.” I grinned back.

Dominic let his hand rest on my cheek he bit his lip. “I’m going to take the day off.”

“You are?”

“Yeah. I’m going to spend it with you and Molly. Maybe we could go and see your Mom?”

I pulled the blanket up and over my bare shoulder. I snuggled into the warmth of the bed. “I’d love that.”

“And I’d love to stay here, but we should get up.” He whispered. “Any minute now Molly is going to come looking for one of us.”

I smiled and nodded. I knew what he was getting at without him having to mention it. Despite our very real, very mutual feelings. It was too early for anyone to know about this new development.

“I’ll see you at breakfast soon?” I whispered as he stood up, naked as the day he was born.

He walked around the bed and picked his clothes up off the floor.

I walked back to my room and dressed for the day before heading back down to the kitchen. Dominic wasn’t there yet but Molly was. She showed me a picture she was drawing of Blondie when Dominic walked in with a phone to his ear.

“Yes, I’m taking the day off.” Dominic stopped speaking for a moment. “Take my meetings, I’m leaving you in charge. I trust your business decisions.”

He turned to look at me and Molly. “Alright Barkley, see you tomorrow.”

“You’re taking the day off?” Molly said enthusiastically with an infectious grin shining on her beautiful face.

“Yes, I want to meet this horse you’ve taken such a shining to.” Dominic grinned as he walked over to the table. He smiled at me then looked over at Harvey. “You’ve got the day off Harvey, starting now.”

“Sir? I... what if someone arrives?”

“I’m expecting no visitors, and you deserve a free day.”

“Thank you sir, I don’t know what else to say.” Harvey mumbled.

“You don’t need to say anything.” At that moment Amelie walked in with the breakfast trays. “That goes for you too Mrs Sampson.”

“Sorry sir?”

“Take the day off, I’m taking Molly and Felicity out for the day.”

“What about dinner?” Amelie questioned as she placed the dish down.

“I’ll sort it.” I smiled. “You go see your kids.”

Amelie placed her hands on my shoulders and squeezed. “Thank you Mr Coran, Felicity.”

“Call me Dominic.” he smiled.

After breakfast we drove to my Mothers. She was surprised to see us, but pleasantly so. She gave me intrigued eyes as Dominic walked in the door behind me, and I knew the minute she could get me alone she’d ask me what was happening, and while a big part of me wanted to tell her, there was an entirely different part of me that yearned to be cautious, even with her.

“Can I show you Blondie, Daddy?” Molly jumped up and down, holding on to Dominic’s hand I looked up at Dominic who nodded with a big grin.

“Of course, I’d love to see you ride Blondie.” He murmured before looking up at Mom. “If that’s alright with you of course.”

“Of course! That’s a wonderful idea, why don’t you three go ride the horses, Felicity I know you remember enough to saddle them up.”

Me on a horse? Was she kidding, I hadn’t been on one since they’d finished teaching me. “Oh Mom, surely not. I mean, I...”

“It could be fun.” Dominic replied. “I’ve ridden a horse before, It’s like riding a bike right?”

Horse riding was nothing like riding a bike, but both Molly and Dominic looked equally excited, and I didn’t want to let them down.

“Alright, it’s a plan. Do you need anything before we head out there Mom?” I asked.

She shook her head and hobbled over to her chair. “The nurse will be here soon anyway. Have fun.”

Reluctantly I led Molly and Dominic outside and over to the stable. Blondie was ready and waiting at the gate, almost like she had sensed Molly’s arrival. Treacle and Cookie were a little more reserved, hiding in the back of the stable eating hay.

I pulled the saddles down and looked at Dominic. “Are you sure you want to do this?” I smiled. “I haven’t ridden a horse in years.”

“Neither.” He admitted. “Molly will remind us both.”

Once the horses were kitted up, we climbed on top and rode down the long paddock. Molly was slightly ahead of us, her and Blondie were like best friends, exploring together.

“She’s a natural.” He murmured.

“Her?” I laughed as I looked at him, holding the rein one handed, he sat perfectly, like he’d been riding all his life. He would have impressed Mom that was for sure. “What about you?”

“Before my parents died we have horses and I used to ride with Melisandre before her accident.” He replied. “It was a long time ago, but I remember it.”

“Daddy!” molly called out. “I saw a bunny rabbit!”

“That’s neat.” Dominic called back, he took Cookie and trotted over to Molly. I watched the two, side by side on their horses and smiled. They had things right, their father-daughter relationship wouldn’t go the way mine had with my own father.

At lunch time we took the horses back. Molly ran back to the house as the smell of apple pie wafted out to the stables. “Your Mom is cooking.” He sighed. “She’s got a broken leg.”

“Can’t stop a workaholic.” I laughed as I lifted the last saddle up. Dominic’s hands slid over my hips and he turned me around. He leaned me against the post and lifted one of his hands to my hair.

“You’re beautiful, you know that right.” He murmured

“You’re silly.”

“No, you’re completely relaxed, I can see it in your smile, in your eyes.” He kissed my forehead. “I like seeing you like this.”

He could see right through me, right to my center, right into my heart. Deep down where I ached for a family like I had always dreamed of.

“It’s being with you and Molly.”

“Until yesterday I just made you tense.” He mumbled, his lips kissed my ear. “You were avoiding me.”

“It was sexual tension Dominic.” I giggled.

“And that’s not a problem anymore?” He said pressing his body to mine.

I hung my hands around his neck and shook my head. “I wouldn’t say that. You’ve got my tension rising.”

Dominic hovered his lips above mine, and before he pressed them to me he whispered. “Mine too baby.”

Like teenagers hiding from stern parents we hid and made out in the stables, up against the post until we almost lost control. Molly’s giggle from the house filtered through the air and broke us apart.

“We should head back inside.” I said regretfully.

“We should.” He replied. “I had fun, hanging out as a family.”

Family. I smiled and nodded. “So did I.”

We walked inside to see Mom and Molly at the bench. Molly had the ice cream and Mom was cutting an apple pie. She was on her crutches, but that didn’t mean I was impressed with her disregard for rest.

“So much for the nurse.” I mused.

“I cancelled.” She said softly. “It was just a big waste of your hard earned money honey, and I can do everything now... almost.”

“Mom.” I complained.

“Actually, I called the place, and I was paying.” Dominic murmured from behind me.

“Dominic?” I turned on my heel, unsure of who I should be pissed at. Mom for cancelling the nurse, or Dominic for going behind my back to pay for it.

“I said I would.” Dominic retorted. “I told you Felicity. I always win.” He smiled and it was laced with a childish cheekiness. I smiled back at him and withheld the urge to kiss him in front of everyone.

“Mom, you shouldn’t have cancelled the nurse.”

“Oh pish posh, I haven’t needed her for two weeks and besides I’m going back to work next week. I’ve mastered the crutches. Now do you two want apple pie and ice cream or not?”

We sat down the table, it was nothing like Dominic’s grand dining room, but it held all the memories Mom and I had made. There was a scratch on the varnished wood from the time we’d carved pumpkins for Halloween on it, a heat ring sat at the other end from the time I’d made mom breakfast one mother’s day. It was strange sharing this space with other people, let along other people I’d come to love. It was a good strange, I had a complete family, something I’d always felt I had, but now it was bigger, fuller.
