Chapter 29

Maria and I sat down on the couch side by side, watching a romcom movie. I looked at her, and she was just so beautiful. I had to tell her how I felt, even if she might not feel the same way, even if she was with Jason.

“Maria, I need to tell you something, it’s really important.” I said as she looked from the tv over to me.

“What is it?” she asked blinking a bit.

“I’ve been meaning to tell you this, but.. I’ve shut it off until now.” I replied taking in a breath. “Maria Anne, I’m in love with you.”

She looked at me a bit, not so sure what to say, but eventually she spoke up and said, “I’m in love with you too.” And I have never been so happy ; so relieved.

“Hunter, wake up sweetie, you’ll be late too school!” I heard my Mom call out, and shaking me. “Wake up,” I heard her call once more.

And at that time, I woke up. It was only a dream, it wasn’t real.

“Damnit, I overslept because of that dream..” I mumbled to myself.

If only it were real..

I woke up late, so I might as well take a shower and be even more late. After the hot shower, I changed into a black t-shirt and dark blue faded jeans along with converse.

“How nice of you to join us Mr. Evans, maybe it’d be even better if you came on time,” the teacher scolded.

“Yeah, yeah. Whatever,” I replied walking towards the back to take an empty seat until the teacher stopped me.

“Not so fast, I think you need to be around people who are a good influence, Ms. Scott will you please move to the front and Mr. Evans, will you please take a seat next to Ms. Anne.” the teacher said.

“Okay Ms. Teacher.” I replied, walking from the back to middle sitting next to Maria.

“Hey, Mari, looks like we’re desk neighbors now.” I said followed by a soft chuckle.

“I guess so,” she replied, she was about to chuckle as well but—

“Hunter, I sat you next to her so she could influence you, not so you could influence her. Now stop disrupting my class, and let me teach.” the teacher said with a stern look on her face.

“Yes Ma’am,” I replied, but I didn’t stop talking to her, I just whispered.

“What a buzzkill,” I whispered.

“I know right,” she whispered back.

After class, I still talked with her. I asked her how things were between her and Jason.

“We’ve only been together for a day, relax. But, things are great.” Maria replied with a smile.

“That’s great to know,” I replied.

“How are things with you and that girl you like?” she asked looking on over at me.

“Oh. Uh, things are— not so great.” I replied.

“Aww, why?” she asked.

“I don’t think she’s interested in me at all,” I replied. “I have a feeling she has someone else in mind.” I added.

“Oh, aw. That sucks, have you told her how you felt about her?” she asked.

“Not yet,” I replied.

“Well, if you don’t. You’ll never know,” she replied with a smile. “Go for it!”

“Yeah, I don’t think so.” I replied. “I’m not good at expressing my feelings,”

“Okay.. well then, practice on me. Pretend I’m the girl you like.” Maria replied.
