“Agent Abigail J. Stone.”
My name had a good ring to it even after ten years in the CIA. The J. stands for Judith, the same name as my grandmother who preferred to go by Judy.
God bless her.
My mom’s name is Sarah. Abigail was just a name my parents liked evidently. My dad’s name is Howard and deep down I’m just a daddy’s girl. Always will be I suppose. He usually called me Abby when I was little. It was his pet name for me. As a grownup, he now calls me Abigail but sometimes he slips up and calls me Abby.
I don’t really mind. I am a daddy’s girl after all.
At the age of 27 and 5’8” though, I was no longer his little girl. My little girl curls had been turned into straight shoulder length auburn hair and my business suit didn’t completely hide my slender but womanly figure.
However, after ten years in the CIA my more common name has become Agent. Just Agent or sometimes Agent Stone, like Agent is my first name. I suppose it’s necessary given the nature of our business. Agents like myself live a very dangerous life and many die in the line of duty. I suppose I was exceptional. I received special training early in my career that went above and beyond what the standard agents get.
I’m confident that training has saved my butt on numerous occasions when I would have become just another dead agent statistic. The training was hammered into me. It was second nature to me now and when I needed it, there it was. Although sometimes even I wondered how I managed to come out alive.
I had spent the last six years travelling all over the world but mostly the middle east doing my job, assassinating heads of state, seducing military officers for their secrets, you name it. I was doing it for my country, my job. It didn’t matter how dangerous the job, I did it and I always succeeded thanks to my training. I was always alert to everything around me. My mind was always in complete control over my emotions, reactions, and thoughts.
I had achieved my goal as an agent.
Now, I had been given a choice of where I would like to be stationed. When asked I answered automatically. Strange. I’m not sure why I chose to go back to where I was first stationed. I’ve been all over the world. Why there? Why not go back close to home where I could see my parents more often? No, I said Sicily and they approved it. Just like that.
After a quick visit with my parents in west Texas to let them know I’d be stationed back in Sicily again, I flew to Italy on the next flight. My paperwork had been forwarded to the Sicily station chief already and I was told he was expecting me. That afternoon I took a cab from the airport to the CIA offices, my bags in tow on their own wheels behind me. It was only a couple of bags. As an agent, I had learned to travel light.
Some old friends I hadn’t seen in several years greeted me enthusiastically. Some were at the academy with me and some I worked with when I was stationed here before. I let the chief’s assistant know I was here and could meet with the chief whenever he had time. The assistant’s name was Anne and she told me she would call me when he was ready. My friends showed me my desk where I could stash my bags. It was good to see them again.
I barely had them settled when I heard my name being called.
“Agent Stone? …Chief Wade will see you now.”
I froze. Chief Wade? He was the station chief? I looked up at my friends who didn’t want to look me in the eye. Great. It definitely wasn’t a different Wade. I slowly started walking toward his office. This could be difficult. I haven’t seen Ranse Wade in six years and he was a senior agent when I left, not the chief.
Relax, I told myself. You are a trained CIA operative, a black belt in three different martial arts and an accomplished assassin. You have succeeded on missions most in this office are not even qualified to do. So what if your new chief is the guy who trained you to be better than anyone else. So what if he has more skills and accomplishments than any agent you’ve ever met. So what if he’s killed more enemies than anyone else on record. He deserves to be chief. Whom else would they appoint if he was available and wanted the job? No one. That’s who.
I steadied my nerves and stopped in front of his office door.
“You can go right on in Agent Stone. Chief Wade is expecting you and it’s my understanding that you were stationed here before? Welcome back!”
“Uh… thank you,” I said distractedly.
“Oh, don’t worry about him Agent Stone. Ranse is just a teddy bear at heart. He’s probably the sweetest man I know.”
“Of course, yes. I know… him. We worked together… before.”
“Oh, you did? Well, all right then. Go on in.”
I opened the door and walked into his office, shutting the door behind me. I kept my head down, walked up to his desk, and waited. It was very neat and clean, not cluttered. The front of his desk was clear of any objects as if made for sitting. Get a hold of yourself. You don’t sit on desks. When I raised my head up to look at him, he was just staring at me… intently.
It startled me at first. His tasseled, coal black hair and steel grey eyes were so unnerving at times. His 6’3” muscular frame didn’t help to dispel that either.
When he started to stand from his seat, I wasn’t sure what to say. We had parted on weird terms and now he was my boss.
“Ranse… I… I –“
Suddenly he was moving around the desk at an incredible speed, coming at me. I quickly started backing up as he advanced on me. I had to stop though when my back hit the door. It made a thump and a rattle in the frame even though it was a very thick door. Standard for private conversations.
He still kept coming. I was afraid due to the look in his eyes that I was going to have to defend myself which would be troublesome since he trained me, he was a lot bigger and stronger than me, and he was likely still better than me, but he stopped suddenly right in front of me. He was no more than a foot from me. We stared into each other’s eyes for a few seconds. His greys penetrated into my blues. I couldn’t speak.
Then he kissed me. It wasn’t just a peck either. He grabbed me and laid one on me that made my knees go weak. His hands snaked around my waist pulling me closer to him. My hands went up around his neck and held on. I wasn’t sure I could stand on my own. I so missed this.
Suddenly he picked me up and spun us around while we were still kissing and carried me back to his desk and sat me down on it. What do you know? It was made for sitting. He kept trying to get his hips closer in between my legs but my skirt was too tight and it felt like the seams were under strain.
He just reached down and inched my skirt up to my hips, exposing the crotch of my panties. My legs could easily open now and his hips fit right in between them with ease. We weren’t quite touching even though I secretly wanted that.
We kissed for a good while when suddenly he just stopped and pulled away, apologizing.
“I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have done that,” he said as he went back around his desk and stared out the window that looked over Sicily.
I just sat there for a minute on the edge of his desk with my panties exposed, dumbfounded. I’m glad the blinds were closed to the other offices. What happened to all my control? What did he just do to me? My nipples were so hard they could cut glass and my panties were wet. I thought I was the seducer?
I couldn’t even stop thinking about it so I just kept getting wetter. I looked back behind me and saw him staring out the window. I quickly got up off the desk and shimmied my skirt back down. I then made sure my matching jacket was covering my boobs properly. My nipples were still hard but the jacket was thick enough to hide my arousal, at least that one anyway.
“Why don’t you have a seat Abby, sorry, Abigail… I mean Agent Stone… so we can get this over with?”
“Thank you but I prefer to stand,” I said feeling rather awkward and not wanting to sit in wet panties. “Long flight.”
“Very well, then I’ll sit. I’m not as young as I used to be you know.”
“Don’t make me laugh. You’re only 31 and as fit as you’ve ever been, just like always.”
“Yes, well, while I usually don’t get sick, today I’m not one hundred percent.”
“Why is that?”
“It’s not important,” he said dismissing my inquiry. “Let’s talk about you and what you can do for this agency.”
We went over my adventures, jobs, skills, etc. and discussed various aspects of the different top-secret ongoing missions that I had clearance for. He assured me that even though it was a little more relaxed around here that there were very important and dangerous missions that needed to be handled out of this office.
Travel would still be part of my job but not near as much. It was pretty much everything I had expected other than having to run into my old boyfriend again and find out he was now my boss. Technically, he was my boss before. I was a junior agent and he was a senior agent taxed with additional training for me. We didn’t plan on falling in love but we did and it was a glorious two years together, training all day and making love at night.
When the CIA thought I was ready, I broke our relationship off and went off to do my job. I didn’t think we could maintain a relationship while I was out travelling the world assassinating and seducing as I went. Most agents never get married and they live a fairly lonely existence, their job being their whole world.
My career was very important to me. It was why I was recruited and why I signed up at the age of 18. Normally they recruit you after a few years in college but they saw something special in me early on. Maybe it was my high IQ and the fact that I’ve been a black belt since I was 12. I spent two years in standard CIA training then was put with Ranse to go through advanced training for an additional two years.
He wasn’t normally assigned as a trainer but his special skills were needed in my case to prepare me for what they had planned. Now after six years I was back with the agent I started with. Funny how that works out.
“Agent Stone here is your address and keys to your new home and vehicle. Why don’t you go ahead and take your things there now and get settled in today. You can start work tomorrow. If you need more time just let me know. If not then I will see you here no later than 7:30 in the morning.”
I nodded and took the paper with the address and the keys and started to leave. I had been distracted by the need to get to the restroom so I could change my panties. As I turned to head for the door, he spoke again.
“Agent Stone, I’m glad you’re back and I’m looking forward to what you can provide to our team here. I hope you can settle in quickly and make yourself at home.”
“Thank you sir,” I said quietly.
Just as I reached the door, he stopped me again. Crap.
“Oh and Abby?”
I turned back around surprised at the familiar address.
“If you want an explanation for my actions earlier then feel free to come over to my house tonight at seven. I’ll fix us dinner and gladly tell you. I’m pretty sure there will not be any food in your house so come eat with me tonight and you can go buy groceries tomorrow for your own house.”
“Thanks, I will. Do you still live in the same place?”
“But I’m sure as chief they could provide a much bigger house?”
“What would I need with a bigger house when it’s just me?”
“Right. See you tonight at seven then.”
“Dress casual, Abigail.”
I nodded and left through the door. Heading straight for my desk to grab my bags and get to the ladies room before going home.
“How did it go?” asked Sofia, who was one of my friends.
“Great! He told me to go home and get settled in today and then I could start tomorrow so I’ll see you guys then.”
Taking my suitcases with me, I started to stop at the ladies room on the way out and use a stall to clean myself up and change into some dry panties but my mind betrayed me again. I kept thinking about what happened when he grabbed me and kissed me. What might happen tonight was running through my head as well. I just got wet all over again thinking about his strong arms around me and his hardened muscular body pressing against mine.
Forget it. I’m going home to my new house and taking a shower – a cold one likely.
When I got to the garage, I pressed the button on my remote to find which Escalade was mine. The CIA and black trucks was so predictable. I rolled my eyes then climbed in. I put the address Ranse gave me into the GPS and had it direct me to my house. The tank was full so I didn’t have to worry about that.
After my meager amount of clothes were put away, and my shower washed away all the travel and meeting with Ranse, I got dressed again in jeans this time and a t-shirt. I had put a mini-pad in my panties just to keep them dry in case my thoughts betrayed me again. I also slipped some extra in my purse along with an extra pair of panties. However, somehow between my shower and time to go see Ranse I had gained back all my control. This helped me to be more relaxed.
I drove over to his house. I didn’t need the GPS since I'd been there many times before. I was knocking on his door at 6:58. He answered it in shorts and a tank top, his muscles on display like it was a prime time show on for my enjoyment.
He invited me in and I followed him into the kitchen where he was making his famous homemade spaghetti. He had me finish preparing the salad while he tended to the food on the stove. It felt just like old times for a second.
We enjoyed a great meal of spaghetti with his sauce, corn, and salad while just chit chatting as we ate. After we were sated, we put the extra food away and our dishes in the sink. We made our way to the living room and grabbed a seat on his couch so we could talk.
“So tell me Ranse. Why did you kiss me like that in your office?”
“Did you enjoy it?”
“Yes, but that’s beside the point. Answer the question.”
“Because I’m still in love with you Abby.”
“W-w-what?” I sputtered. “You’re not going to ease me into it? You’re just going to come right out and say it?”
“Yes, you know I never beat around the bush.”
“If I remember correctly I broke up with you when it was time for me to go out on my own. I had a career to think about and I was going to be travelling for a long time, years in fact. Plus, with the jobs I had there was no way we could maintain our relationship. It just wouldn’t have worked. I loved you too much to hurt you.”
“Abby, there’s some information you’re missing. The Agency did not see fit to tell you everything about your missions.”
“What do you mean?”
“I had some ongoing missions I was working on when they called me in to train you. They explained to me that you were special like I was and they wanted me to train you so you could be just as efficient. Your great intellect and physical prowess leant itself to my special skills.”
“So they pulled you off ongoing missions just to train me? They interrupted what you were working on for that?”
“Yes, but I arranged for some other agents to keep things going until I could return and finish up. That gave me the time needed to train you. When done I was going to return to the field and my regular duties, but that’s not how things worked out.”
“We fell in love and I don’t know about you but I fell really hard. I suspect you weren’t as smitten with me since you were able to break it off for your job. I was ready to quit my job if it was required for me to be with you.”
“No. That can’t be. You love your job.”
“I do, but I figured out that I love you more.”
“You’re going to make me cry Ranse and I haven’t cried in years.”
“Wait, wait, wait. Don’t cry yet. I’m not done telling you what you need to know.”
I took a big breath and let it out slowly.
“Okay, tell me the rest of it.”
“I was talking with the Agency when we came close to the end of our two years together. I was trying to get them to let us be partners. I did succeed but you broke up with me before the papers came through declaring it. Since I believed at the time that you didn’t love me as much, I went back to our chief and requested a different assignment. She granted that too.”
“What did you do?”
“Well, they sent you on some fairly simple assignments at first which is typical when you’re being broken in as a new operative. Had we partnered we would have hit the big ones right away. While you were doing that, I went back and finished up my ongoing assignments. When they were completed in about a year I started my new job and you started the dangerous assignments.”
“I remember that. Suddenly they needed me to use my special training. I wondered all that first year why they even had me learn all that since I wasn’t really having to use it. Then suddenly I was. Why the change when you took on your new assignment? I don’t understand the connection.”
“Let me ask you this Abby. Before today, how long has it been since you’ve seen me?”
“The last time I saw you was six months ago.”
“How can that be? I didn’t see you six months ago.”
“That’s because you weren’t supposed to see me. Instead of your partner, I became your shadow protector instead.”
I just stared at him for several seconds.
“Are you telling me that I’m not near as good as I was led to believe?”
“No, no, no, Abby! You are as good if not better. It’s just that most of the jobs you were sent on required backup. It was my job to provide it. They were originally going to get someone else to partner with you but I refused to let you out of my sight for very long.”
“I can’t believe this.”
“Around a year ago I took this job as station chief and then six months ago I checked up on you one last time. You see for five years I watched you become the amazing agent you were meant to be. You finally reached the point you didn’t need backup anymore. It worked the same way for me when I started until I reached that point.”
“So that last year I was truly doing it all on my own?”
“Yes, Abby. Actually longer than that. I could have stopped sooner but I was in love even though it wasn’t returned.”
“But it was Ranse. I did love you. I just thought I had to choose and agents weren’t known for long-term relationships. I didn’t know we could have been partners. I thought you would return to your regular job. I’m such an idiot.”
“You’re not an idiot. I’m the idiot. I should have told you what I was working on and that I wanted to be your partner. You could have then had a more informed decision to make. Had you chosen to break up with me knowing that we could be partners then I would have moved on. Since you didn’t know then I always held out a little hope, but didn’t want to get in your way.”
“Are you still hopeful?”
“Probably, but you keep saying you did love me rather than you still love me so my heart is not able to take much more now that you’re actually here.”
“Now I know why I picked Sicily.”
“When they gave me my choice of stations I picked Sicily. I didn’t hesitate, not one second. Why, I asked myself? I mean I could have been closer to my parents so I could see them more often but I wanted to come back here. Do you know why?”
“Because I missed what we had here and I guess underneath all those layers I’ve built up I wanted to get that back and I didn’t even realize you would be here. When you were kissing me, in your office, I remember thinking how much I missed that and I have missed that over the years. I’m sure you noticed I didn’t resist.”
“No, you didn’t. It gave me hope.”
“Maybe it’s time I stop causing you to hope and give you the real thing.”
“Are you sure? Because I’m all in. I have been for years. I don’t want you to do this unless you’re all in too.”
“Shut up and kiss me.”
