Chapter 23: Vampir
“Oh, Elisabeth,” I felt a feather light pressure on my mouth.
“I think he loves her too,” Someone whispered.
“Elisabeth please wake up,” They pleaded.
Slowly, I was beginning to see a pin point of white light in the black void I had been trapped in. The light grew bigger and brighter until I was enveloped in it completely and totally.
When I fully came to I sat up abruptly, coughing hard, coughing up blood. Daniel was instantly at my side, his face full of worry, but some relief as well. “Daniel,” I moaned. “My throat, it’s on fire,” I rasped. He reached across me to the night stand and handed me a cup full of a dark liquid.
“You need to drink,” He said softly.
“Is this, is this blood?” I stammered and he nodded. “I don’t want to drink this!” I shoved the cup in his direction and turned my nose away from it. Although, the smell of it was very tempting. Daniel sighed and moved so he was sitting next to me on the bed. I was still in my uncle Octavian’s house in Cambridge. “Where is Silvia?” I asked fearfully.
“She has been sent to the council in Romania where she will face trial.” He said. “My parents came to retrieve her yesterday.” Daniel clasped my hand in his and gave it a reassuring squeeze. “You are safe, Elisabeth. Now, please drink. If you don’t you will fall unconscious again and eventually wither away.” Daniel’s voice was becoming thick with worry. “Please, Elisabeth, for me.” Daniel handed me the cup again gently.
This was no longer the commanding, princely Daniel I had come to know. Right now he was soft and gentle and he looked oh so tired, like he hadn’t slept in days. Maybe he hadn’t. “Please, Elisabeth,” He said again. “I will not drink until you do.” I lifted the cup to my nose and gave it a tentative sniff. It did smell good. Really good actually. Daniel gave me an encouraging nod and I brought the cup to my lips and took a small sip. My eyes widened and I began gulping it down once I tasted it on my tongue. I had the entire cup downed in a matter of seconds. However, my throat still felt like it was burning.
Daniel visibly relaxed next to me and leaned his body into mine. “Thank you,” He murmured into my hair. “I thought I was going to lose you.” His arms circled around me and I lay with my head on his chest, for the first time I could truly smell his scent for what it was. He smelled of the forest just after the rain, fresh, woodsy and musky.
In a matter of minutes Daniel had fallen asleep with me trapped in his arms. I too, was still very tired, but my need for more blood drove me to leave the comfort of his arms and find my relatives downstairs. I was still so weak that going down the steps was difficult, I almost tripped and tumbled down.
“Elisabeth!” All three of them, Octavian, Sebastian and Alexandra shot to their feet when I reached the landing of the steps. They moved quickly to stand around me, but my heightened senses allowed me to see their every step.
“We’re so glad that you’re okay,” Octavian sighed. He disappeared into the kitchen and then returned with another, larger, glass of blood. “Drink, you must still be thirsty.” I tried to control my need for it, but once again I ended up gulping it all down quickly. Uncle Octavian gave me a reassuring smile. “It will take a couple of days for your thirst to become bearable, you were unconscious for two days and Silvia had taken a large amount of blood before Daniel could overtake her.” Two whole days?! Crap, I was missing the AP Prep exam in Lit today.
Octavian handed me another two glasses of blood. “Give a glass to Daniel as well, he hasn’t had any to drink since Saturday either. I think he’s punishing himself.” My uncle frowned. “Go on, you should be with him, Daniel has been worried sick and refused to leave your side.”
Alexandra walked with me back upstairs and to the bedroom, she was very quiet.
“Here,” She handed me her cell phone. “You should call home and let them know you’re okay.” She gave me a small smile and trudged back downstairs. I wondered if she felt guilty. Daniel was still asleep and hogging almost the entire bed when I entered. I rolled my eyes at him and set his glass on the night stand. I took large sips from my own glass, but my throat was starting to feel slightly better. Daniel let out a moan from next to me and he reached out towards where I had been in his arms earlier, still half asleep.
“Elisabeth,” He murmured, his brows knit together.
“I’m here,” I whispered. His eyes fluttered open and found mine in an instant.
“I was so worried about you. I, I could not protect you.” He said tiredly.
“It’s okay, Daniel,” I said softly. “I’m fine.” Daniel sighed and sat up next to me. “Now drink,” I handed him the full glass. “Octavian told me that you’ve been refusing to drink until I woke up.” I frowned at him. “Why would you not drink?” Daniel took a long sip before responding.
“How can I forgive myself Elisabeth?” Daniel whispered. His blue eyes were sad when they met my own hazel eyes.
“Daniel, you did protect me, you kept her from straight out killing me.” I took his face between my hands. “There’s nothing to feel guilty about, and I’m so glad that you’re here with me now.” He smiled half-heartedly at me and glanced back down at his glass.
“Yes, but now you are a full-blooded vampire.” His voice rueful. “I could not protect your humanity.”
“Daniel Vasile Florescu,” His head shot up at the commanding tone to my voice. “You know damn well that that going to happen eventually anyway. Yes, I would have preferred that you had been the one to do it, but that was beyond your control.” Daniel’s expression turned from one of guilt to him smirking at me. “What?”
“Did you want me to bite you?” He asked softly.
“I had been thinking about it,” I mumbled and looked away from him and down at the bed. Daniel lifted my chin until our gazes met, then pressed his lips against mine softly.
“I am glad that you wanted to me to. Because I love you, Elisabeth.” My eyes snapped open and before I could say anything Daniel smiled and was kissing me again. He set his glass down and continued kissing me, cupping my face with his hands.
“You love me?” I asked between kisses. He deepened the kisses, pulling me closer against him. “I thought vampires didn’t love,” I murmured against his lips.
“Perhaps I was wrong, or maybe there are exceptions. I was so worried about you Elisabeth, I could not drink, I could not sleep, I was at a loss. Thinking of a life without you in it makes me feel cold, like it would no longer be worth it. You have no idea how happy I am now that I know you are okay.” My breath hitched in my chest and then I kissed him and crushed him against me. “Elisabeth,” He murmured. “Will you let me love you? Do you want to love me?”
“Oh, Daniel, of course. Don’t you know that I love you too?” I said. Daniel smiled and kissed me again, this time with much more passion behind it.
“One day,” He kissed my forehead. “when your thirst is sated,” He kissed my lips. “we will taste each other.” Daniel finished with a kiss to my throat, where Silvia’s fangs had gone in. Butterflies filled my stomach with the thought of biting Daniel and…tasting him, and also the thought of him tasting me. “We should rest,” He said with a soft smile. “I believe that both of us are tired.” He was right, who knew being unconscious for two days could make someone feel so exhausted.
We fell asleep on the bed together, me with my head on his chest and his arms cradling me against him. The two of us must have slept for another six hours, when we woke up again it was dark outside except for the crescent moon in the sky. I called my parents to let them know that everything was fine, that I was okay. As okay as someone could be after becoming a vampire. Daniel suggested we spend another few days here in Cambridge until my thirst was sated, I agreed it would probably be best to not be around to many humans for a bit. And I also wanted to spend more time with uncle Octavian, Alexandra and Sebastian, they were the only blood relatives I had left after all. We had a lot of catch up on.
Telling Gigi about everything that had happened was a totally different story, I was having a hard time figuring out how to tell her everything.
“Do you guys have a computer I could use?” I asked Octavian the next day. It was already Tuesday and I still hadn’t messaged Gigi at all, she was probably freaking out.
“Oh, yes, it’s in the library.” I followed uncle Octavian to a part of the house I had yet been in. The library was almost wall to wall bookshelves, filled with books of every genre, many looked rather old. The entire room smelled of old books.
“Thanks,” I smiled up at him and Octavian disappeared to somewhere else in the house. However, a few moments later Daniel trailed in and came to stand behind me, wrapping his arms around my shoulders and resting his chin on the top of my head.
“Finally going to message Gigi?” He asked. I nodded and logged onto IM, it was late here so hopefully she would be online.

Elisabest: Hi, Gigi.
*Gigi1340 is Online*
7:21 PM EST
Gigi1340: Elisabeth? OMG WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN?!
Elisabest: It’s okay, Gigi, I’m fine. I’m in Cambridge England with my Vieru relatives.
Gigi1340: England? You’re in freaking England?? Why are you there and not here?
Elisabest: Okay, so long story short my cousins came to Avery and kind of kidnapped me and brought me here. My aunt wanted to absolve me from the marriage and have her daughter, my cousin Alexandra, fulfill it instead. I kind of refused and she got pissed and then Daniel came to rescue me only my aunt threatened me with a stake and Daniel tried to stop her, and he sort of did. But not until after she bit me and tried to drain me of all my blood.
Gigi1340: What the fuck?! So does this mean that you’re, like, a full vampire now..?
Elisabest: But it’s okay, Gigi. Really, I’m fine. Daniel has been here in Cambridge with me and we’re together now I guess. Daniel is nodding, so yeah, we’re together now. He said he loves me. :3
Gigi1340: Is that so? So, you’re okay with being a vampire?
Elisabest: Yeah, I think so, it’s not so bad. I don’t sleep too much anymore and all of my senses are way better.
Gigi1340: But you drink…blood..?
Elisabest: Oh, um, yeah. It’s the only thing that will sustain us… It’s not like I’ve gone out and attacked anyone, Gigi. They get it from hospitals, from people that donate it.
Gigi1340: I guess that’s not so bad then. So long as you’re happy Elisa.
Elisabest: I am, Gigi. I really am.
Gigi1340: Well okay then. You’re still the same Elisabeth and that’s all that matters to me. :) When are you and Daniel coming home?
Elisabest: On Thursday. Do you think you could get our classwork for us? We’d both really appreciate it.
Gigi1340: Sure thing!
Elisabest: Thanks Gigi. :) It’s getting late here so I think I’m going to get off. I’ll talk to you later, okay?
Gigi1340: Okay, sounds good. Ttyl.

“She is a very good friend.” Daniel said. “You are lucky to have her. Loyalty can be hard to come by in the vampire world.” He kissed the top of my head and helped me from the office chair. “Come, let’s go to bed.” Daniel smirked and led me back upstairs where we laid in bed for the rest of the night, but definitely weren’t sleeping.
