Part 1 - Chapter 10
The more I stared at the picture, the more confused I got. How can someone meet up with a dead person?
They can’t. Unless she wasn’t dead.
I sighed running a hand over my face, I had to talk to Cameron, he would be the only person that would know. He was there with me...
Did he mean Alpha Hercules Ryder talked to Catherin herself or her pack members? Because that was two completely different things.
I grabbed my phone dialling Cameron who picked up on the eight ring, too slow for my liking.
“Sex line speaking, how may I help you,”
“Shut up Cameron,” I snapped irritated and heard his throaty laugh on the other side.
“I was joking, how are you little one? Find that information I have compiled entertaining?” he asked.
“Bullshit,” I sat up rubbing a hand against my temple, “How can she be when it was me who killed her Cam, you were there as well.”
“Look there are two records on board right now. One says that you killed her two years ago,” I winced, that was the record I knew. “This one says that she is under a different name, and is still alive.”
“Cameron. I remember tearing her head from her body,” my voice was low, no emotion. I mean how else were you supposed to describe the fact that you felt her blood go cold, the warm sticky liquid on your fingers. Her eyes became lifeless in front of me, I would never have thought eyes could tell you how dead someone was till you were there watching them turn dark.
I felt her heart stop, I smelt her iron blood.
I was fucking there.
And I was sure I killed her.
“Well why don’t you go talk to Hercules? There might be an imposter,” suddenly the idea of an imposter was much better. Surely you can just get anyone with red hair and blue eyes and change their name.
There was one person that would definitely know, it would be Catherin’s still alive mate, Alpha Caine. Then again Caine would never tell me, I couldn’t really just go call him and say ‘Hey Caine, remember me? I killed your mate, so is she still alive or still dead?’ and I was sure that if she was still alive then he would never tell me.
Caine was always known to take good decisions as an Alpha, except the entire mate bond blinded him. He couldn’t tell what a terrible person his mate was, and he still hated me for what I did. He was so blinded by the truth he didn’t even want to know what had actually happened that day. She was never meant to die... it just... happened.
I was trying to help her, not just go around killing people but somehow murder and me just always ended up as the end result.
There was only one Alpha I knew that wouldn’t care whether you were their child or their mate, if you were wrong, you would face the consequences. Why can’t they all be like that? Not be blinded by this dumb life changing bond.
There was a knock on the door and I told Cameron I would call him later hanging up.
Elliot was on the other side, telling me that Damien wanted to see me in his office. Did he capture the rogues?
I followed Elliot to Damien’s office, he left us closing the door behind him.
“You wanted to speak to me?” I asked, slipping my hands into the pockets of my pants. Surely there couldn’t be that much development from our talk upstairs to now.
Damien was leaning against the bookshelf with a book in his hand, flipping through it. He looked up his eyes meeting mine and closed the book placing it back on the shelf.
“Yes,” he said nodding.
I shrugged my shoulders rocking back on my heels stopping in the middle of the room. “Okay...?”
He walked over to his desk, sitting on the table and clasping his hands in his lap, looking casual, yet his face showed otherwise, “I want to start by saying thank you for not telling the elders and council just yet.”
I didn’t say anything, instead I kept my hands in my pocket listening to him, he shouldn’t thank me yet because it just happened. No doubt tomorrow I would have to do paperwork about the incident, which I hated because paperwork was just gross.
“Did anyone ever tell you that you have Luna qualities in you?” The moment the L word slipped out of his mouth I knew exactly where this was heading.
Why did every unmated Alpha out there think they could just dish out advice, why don’t they go do the dishes instead.
“I’m surprised you haven’t found a mate yet,” he said crossing his hands over his chest looking confused, “Surely someone of your profession who travels a lot should.”
Here it was again, another Alpha telling me that my biological clock must be ticking and I need to settle down soon. Did they ever stop to think that maybe not all wolves just aimed to find their mate and settle down.
I sighed, “I highly doubt you called me to discuss the lack of marks on my neck, so is there something more important that you would like to discuss?”
He raised an eyebrow, “Why are you so bitter?”
“Why do you care so much about my mate?” I retorted.
Damien sighed standing up and crossing his arms across his chest, “I have a preposition for you.”
“I don’t think I want to hear it Damien,” I said, I knew exactly what his great idea was and I did not agree to it one bit.
He raised an eyebrow, “Oh really? Do you know who I am? The power you would obtain from this.” he stepped closer, his chest almost against mine as he looked down at me. He grabbed my upper arm in an attempt to make me not move back further.
“Do you know what I am capable of if you continue to piss me off?” I asked. Damien just stared at me and I had no idea what he was thinking, but the slight narrow of his eyes told me that he wasn’t pleased.
“I’m simply trying to help!”
I shook my head, “No you’re not, you just want a Luna that will lead your pack, but I’m telling you here and now, you’re not going to crack me and have me under your rule Alpha. I’m going to go upstairs and sleep and forget we had this conversation.”
Before Damien could state some other stupid thing to try and convince me to be his mate, I grabbed his arm yanking it off me. “Don’t touch me again,” I warned him.
I walked out of the room and down the corridor passing Alpha Hercules and faltered, what the hell was he doing out here this late?
He was talking to Lachlan in hushed voices and they both stared at me.
He barely met my gaze as I walked past him, or more stormed and headed upstairs irritated by Damien's actions.
Just cause I had no mate mark on me didn’t mean every single unmated wolf out there could try and sink their teeth into my neck. There was a reason my neck was untouched, sort of, when it came to wolf’s teeth anyways.
I sighed collapsing onto the bed, the next man to come onto me was going to lose his baby making powers.
