Beep! Beep! Beep!
Of course it’s already time for me to get up, why wouldn’t it be? For the past couple days I’ve been getting up at 9:45am so that I can get into the habit of waking up early for school.
I reach for my phone to turn off the sound but realize it’s not even on my side table where I left it last night.
“Damn it” I mumble, opening my eyes to see if my hand just missed my phone.
Nope not there, of course it’s not. Sometimes before dad goes to leave for work he moves my phone to a different spot in my bedroom so that I actually have to get out of my bed to turn off the alarm. Today is one of those days.
I push the blankets off of myself and sit up. I look around my room before I actually get up seeing if I could spot it.
“Ha, there it is!” It’s sitting on my desk across from my bed.
I get up and go to my desk grabbing my phone and turning off the alarm. I check the time and notice its 9:55am.
“Wow, it took 10 minutes to actually get up and get it.”
Still half asleep I decide to start going downstairs to eat. But with my luck I trip on some clothes that are lying on my floor and hit my face right off the ground.
“God damn it!” I reached for my face to feel if I was bleeding and when I moved my hand away from my face was blood.
“Shit, of course I’d be bleeding.” I quickly get up to look in the mirror. I’d have to go to the hospital to get it checked out just in case it's broken.
I ran into the bathroom and put some tissue up to my nose to try and stop the bleeding. While I’m in the bathroom I thought it would be a good idea to shower since I’m going out, even if it’s just to the hospital.
After my shower I brushed my teeth and dried my hair. By this point my nose has stopped bleeding but it was pretty swollen and hurt like hell.
I went into my room to finish getting ready. Today I decided to just dress casually so I put on a tie-dye tank top and a pair of light blue skinny jeans. I brushed my hair and put it up into a pony tail, thinking that was good enough for the hospital. I also didn’t put on any makeup today, there’s really no point.
After I was done I grabbed my phone, turned off my bedroom light and went downstairs. I just grabbed a banana and a glass of water to eat cause now I wasn’t that hungry.
I looked at the clock to see the time it was now 10:30am.
“I look this good and it only took me 35 minutes to get ready, nice.” I said checking myself out in the mirror
People are always calling me cocky but I’m just confident, there’s a difference.
I put on my converse, grabbed my keys and walked out the front door. I locked the front door and started walking to the spot where my car would usually be parked but then I remembered it’s at the repair shop.
“Damn. I am so not walking to the hospital. Guess I got to call somebody to drive me.”
I started scrolling through my contacts to see who I could call. Can’t call dad he’s at work that only really leaves Mark.
I clicked the call button on his contact and waited for him to answer.
“Mark you answered thank God!”
“What’s so urgent that you need to thank God I answered?” He replied
“Well... I need you to be the best boyfriend ever and take me to the hospital.” I said it in the sweetest voice I possibly could, hoping it would work
“THE HOSPITAL! Are you alright? Are you hurt? Are you dying? Oh my God, hurry up and answer my questions Brooke.” He actually sounded scared and it was the cutest thing ever.
“Will you relax I’m fine. I just fell and hit my face off the ground. I need to see if it’s broken or not. So can you take me, please?”
“I would love to take you-”
“Oh yes! Thank-”
“But I can’t.” Wait what did he just say to me?
“What? You can’t take me?” Oh god I really don’t want to take the bus
“I’m not even home; I’m at my grandma’s today.”
“Oh okay... that’s uh... fine, I’ll call somebody else. Thanks anyways Mark.” Before he could answer I hung up. I wasn’t mad at him, not at all. I just didn’t know who else to call, then it hit me.
“Oh, I know exactly who to call!” The person’s name came into my brain the second I remembered why I didn’t didn’t have my car.
I scrolled through my contacts to find the person I was looking for. When I reached their contact I clicked the call button hoping they would answer.
“Uh, hello Brooke?” They sounded tired as if I woke them.
“Hey Alex... I need a favor.” Yes I called Alex, we may not be friends anymore but if she called asking me to take her to the hospital I would so why wouldn’t she do the same for me?
“Oh god. Okay what is it?” She said with a sigh.
“Well... You see I kind of fell and hit my face on the ground. So I was wondering if you could take me to the hospital since my car is in the repair shop?” I was kind of scared for her answer; would she say no to me?
For about 10 seconds all I heard was laughing and then she finally responded.
“You do realize my car is in the repair shop to right?” Oh shit I totally forgot that part.
“Well uh... Can’t you borrow one of your parent’s cars?” She’s going to say no, I can feel it.
“Yeah. Okay Brooke I’ll be there in 10 you better be ready or I’m leaving.” Before I could respond she hung up on me.
“Oh. My. God. She actually said yes to me!” I just sat on the steps of my porch waiting for her.
Exactly 10 minutes later a blue 2004 Honda drove right in front of my house. She was driving her mom’s car, no surprise there. Her dad use to never let anyone drive his car and I doubt he's changed.
I got up and walked towards the car. When I got to the passenger’s side I stopped before opening the door, I took a deep breath then opened it. I sat down, put on my seat belt and shut the door.
The whole time she was just watching me. I tried to make it seem like I didn’t notice her staring but I was getting all flustered by it. I had to say something before it got really awkward.
“Thanks for picking me up.” I said as casually as I could, but it came out in more of a squeaky voice
“It’s no problem. I had to go out anyways and your house was on the way.”
That’s where the conversation ended; the rest of the ride was quiet. After a long 25 minutes we arrived at the hospital. I got out to leave and to my surprise so did she.
“Uh, what are you doing?”
“Going in with you? Is there a problem?”
“N-no not at all. I’m just surprised, but I totally understand why you’re coming in with me.” She then raised an eyebrow at me and was curious about why I thought she was coming in with me so I continued.
“Well you, Alexandra Woods are coming into the hospital with me because you just can’t stay away from me, it’s alright I know I’m irresistible, don’t worry though many people have this problem.” I said with a wink.
She just rolled her eyes at my comment and walked past me into the hospital.
“Ha you didn’t deny it!” I said in a childish tone.
“But I never agreed.” Was all she replied with.
I jogged into the hospital to catch up with her; she was just standing there looking at her phone. Before I reached her I stopped to actually look at her.
I started from her feet. For shoes she was wearing a pair of sandals, as for her actually clothes she was wearing a red sundress the ended just above her knee. I was use to seeing her legs while she played soccer but damn, her legs look extra good in this dress. I then moved my eyes to her torso, the dress she was wearing fit her toned body perfectly it was tight in all the right places, I then moved my eyes back to her face which was the worst idea ever.
She had a huge smirk on her face and I then realized I was full on checking her out and she was watching me the whole time. My cheeks immediately turned bright red in embarrassment.
“Like what you see?” She said in a cocky tone.
“I- uh- need to go check in.” I walked past her as fast as I could.
I checked myself in at the front desk and sat down in the waiting area. A second later Alex joined me sitting in the chair beside me.
“How the hell did you even fall?” She’s totally going to laugh at me when I tell her but whatever
So I then explained to her how my alarm was on my desk, and how I went to go eat then tripped on a pile of clothes and hit my face. She was quiet for a couple seconds and then erupted into laughter.
“O-oh... w-wow... You’re s-so clumsy” she said in between laughs.
“Yeah, yeah laugh at my pain.”
’I will it’s hilarious.”
We talked a little while waiting for my name to be called. Just about what classes we’re taking first semester, turns out we have two of the same classes.
“I forgot to tell you but, you-“
“BROOKE, DO WE HAVE A BROOKE WILDE HERE” called a nurse in light blue scrubs
Damn it, Alex was just about to tell me something.
“Yeah I’m right here.” I said while raising my hand
“Alright follow me miss. Without your friend.”
The nurse stood by the door waiting for me to follow but I had to know what Alex was going to say.
“Alex, what were you saying before he interrupted?”
“Oh, nothing just good luck in there.”
“Oh... Thanks.” And with that I turned and walked away.
The nurse led me into an office and told me to sit in the chairs.
“The doctor will be in soon.”
“Okay thank you.” I said with a little wave
I’m sure when the nurse says soon he means 20 minutes or longer. Doctors always take a long time to come into the patient’s room.
When Alex was trying to tell me something I know she didn’t just want to say good luck to me. I guess I’ll never know though.
After about 15 minutes the doctor finally came, I didn’t break my nose I just bruised it. She sent me out of her office with pain killers and ice. I walked back into the waiting room where Alex was still sitting.
“Hey, thanks for waiting for me.” I greeted
“Come on I have somewhere to be.” She said getting up and walking out the front entrance
I followed after her and got into the car. She seemed to be in a rush by the way she immediately drove out of the hospital parking lot. She started driving the opposite way of my house; I thought she was supposed to be dropping me off?
“Yeah?” She replied so calmly it was a little annoying.
“You know my house isn’t this way, right?”
“I know. You’re coming with me to where I need to go.”
Wait what? School is tomorrow and I have stuff to prepare before tomorrow. I’m not supposed to be out all day. No matter what I say she’s not going to turn around back to my house so I might as well go with it.
“Alright. Where are we even going?”
“You’ll see when we get there Brooke.”
