Chapter 3: Well....

Derek

I walk quickly down the rapidly filling hallways, muttering sorry each time I feel contact with someone else. I manage to slide into my seat in the small circle, in the small room just before doctor Quinn enters the room. Her heels click sharply against the aged linoleum floors as I bring my hands up behind my head and sigh in anticipation for our meeting.

“Good Morning all” chirps doctor Quinn a genuine smile gliding gracefully onto her lips. “You should all know the drill by now, so let’s start with Jamie.”

A small girl whose blonde hair is pulled into two pigtails stands up out of her chair before saying cheerfully “Well Miss. Quinn all of the voices are still there and they say hi. But this morning Danny got in a fight with Carrie and Melly just laughed. I told Melly it wasn’t nice to laugh and she just laughed at me.” A frown pulled at the young girl’s features “I didn’t like it but” she lightened up a bit before saying “i didn’t cry and made them all go to bed for a bit.” Jamie hopped back up into her chair swinging her small legs back and forth, a grin on her face. I feel a smile tug at my own lips at the almost infectious moods of the small girl.

Dr. Quinn just nods and writes some things down on her bright yellow pad of paper. Once she is done she looks up at the next person in the circle, who happens to be my roommate Matt. “Your turn Matthew” she says tapping her pen lightly against the paper.

Matt stands and flips his dirty blonde bangs out of his eyes before giving Dr. Quinn a little wink. “Well since you asked Dr. Q I still wanna set shit..”

“Language Matthew!” Dr. Quinn yells motioning to Jamie, who just sits there swinging her legs oblivious of all that was going on around her.

“Sorry” Matt says flushing a deep red and flashing a sheepish grin in Jamie’s direction before continuing “I still want to set stuff on fire but it’s less people it’s more just things.”

“Please explain” Dr. Q says scribbling madly on the paper stopping only to push a bright blonde strand of hair out of her eyes.

He laughs a little before leaning slightly on his chair and saying “Well I would rather see a building go up than say my dear friend Derek” He places a hand on my shoulder as he says my name.

I brush it off and roll my eyes “Thanks dude I really appreciate you not wanting to watch me burn to death.”

“No problemo bro.” he responds with a laugh before sitting down.

Without waiting for my name to be called I stand and say “Yes I still feel exactly the same, and no I don’t want to talk about it.” I pause before going on “but what I do want to talk about is the new chick in 288.” All eyes turn to me suddenly “what?” I ask shrugging “I thought you all knew she was there.” I sit down. Dr. Q’s icy blue eyes seem to burn holes in my skull, but she doesn’t say a word. She just motions for the last person in our little group to get up.

Anabella does as she is told with a flip of her jet black hair. “Well” she begins stretching out the word more than is necessary “I feel great, no hallucinations, no weird glimpses into the future or the past, nothing.” A coy smirk pulls at her lips.

“Liar!” a small voice yells from her spot in the circle “Just yesterday you were telling me about...” she is cut off by Anabella’s hand covering her mouth. I let out a little laugh at the two girls actions.

Anabella attempts to continue “As I was saying I am perfectly healthy and think OW YOU LITTLE BRAT YOU BIT ME!!!” she screams clutching her hand and jumping up and down.

“Oh come on I didn’t even bite you that hard” Jamie says crossing her arms and rolling her eyes.

“I think that’s enough for today” Dr. Quinn says standing with a sigh.

I stand and begin walking out the door and down the hallway when I slam into an unfamiliar body. “Bloody hell watch where you’re going” I spit out looking over at the person sprawled out next to me.

“I-I’m so sorry” a voice whimpers looking over at me. My breath hitches in my throat as I met with the darkest pair of eyes I have ever seen in my life.
