A Short Story

"Do you think that if you were to die right now, you could become a star?" she asked, as they stared up at the bright lights in the dark sky.

"What kind of question is that?"

"I just wanted to know. I, for one, would love to become a star."

He chuckled, used to the odd thoughts that were woven in the dreams and ideas of her mind. "Where did this all come from?" he asked, genuinely curious.

Thinking for a moment she replied, "I had gotten some books and was reading about stars. It's incredible."

Looking at her, he said, "You should lend them to me. Anything you love, I'd love."

Turning her face to the sky, she nodded. "I'll do that then. But later. Let's just stay."
