Chapter 10

“He kissed me!” she squealed quietly into her phone.

“Who kissed you?” Grayson asked gruffly not liking he didn’t know about some man in her life who felt like he could kiss her.

“Colton!” she said excitedly. “I mean it wasn’t a long, deep kiss, more like a glancing kiss but I’m counting it as a kiss. My first!”

“Colton, your boss, kissed you?”

“Yes,” she answered her excitement dimming by his incredulous tone. “Why are you asking like that?”

“Like what?”

“Like you can’t believe it,” she said timidly. “I mean I know it wasn’t much of a kiss, but for someone like me it’s the best I’ll be able to do.”

“Oh honey, I don’t mean to sound surprised. I am, but not because he kissed you. I knew he wanted to kiss you since I caught him looking at you from the office one day years ago.”

“What?” she exclaimed. “What do you mean?”

“One evening I was picking you up, right when you started working for him, and I saw him watching you out of one of the windows in his office. That man was hungry for you.”

“No he wasn’t!” she rebuffed him, not wanting to believe that her crush on Colton could be returned. “He couldn’t possibly want – me.”

“He kissed you didn’t he?”

“Yes, but it was barely a kiss. I mean you’ve kissed me harder.”

“Was it seductive?”

“Seductive? I don’t know. I mean, I felt it all the way to my toes, but I don’t know if he did. I can’t believe the slightest touch from him made my nipples perk up, and my pussy begins to purr.”

“Did you just say ‘pussy’? ” Grayson laughed. “I love it. When did you develop such a potty mouth?”

Alexa laughed with him. “Ever since I moved out and didn’t have anyone constantly watching to see if I fucked up.”

“Fuck me hard!” Grayson exclaimed. “You are truly getting your groove on. I love it.”

“I know I shouldn’t, but I like being here at Colton’s place. I don’t feel so alone like I do when I’m at my apartment. Even though he’s on another floor, it is comforting to know that he’s close. Is that wrong of me to feel?”

“No honey. If that is what you feel, then that is what you feel. Feelings are real even yours, despite your parents trying to convince you otherwise. But what you do with those feelings can have long-term consequences.”

“I don’t think there is anything I want to do with them. I like having them. Feeling – safe. I’ve never had that before.”

“I’m glad you have it now then. I’m not going to ask why you are at Colton’s place only do you need anything from your place?”

“No, we stopped by there before he brought me over here. I still hadn’t entirely unpacked from when I moved in.”

“I’m going to leave you two alone for a few days before I come over and make a pest of myself. But if you need anything, you let me know.”

“You don’t want to know why I’m here?”

“I do, and I don’t, to be perfectly honest. I’m pretty sure your parents did something to you, and you need to be kept safe from them. I’m already mad as it is but if you tell me what they did, I might kill them.”

“I don’t want you to do that which is why I didn’t call you when it happened a couple of days ago.”

“A couple of days! Christ Alexa, are you ok? You haven’t been alone until now have you?”

“No, Colton found me and took me to the hospital. Then he brought me to his place where I have been for the past 36 hours. So I guess it hasn’t been a true couple of days. Most of this time I’ve been sleeping, resting as Colton calls it. Recuperating.”

“Should I ask from what?”

“No, I don’t think I should tell you just yet. It’s still raw for me. I don’t want to think about it right now. I want to distract myself with this kiss, which may be why he did it.”

“To distract you?”

“Yeah,” she sighed with dismay. “That’s probably why. Not because he wanted to kiss me.”

“I think he did want to kiss you, but he’s hanging back a little because he doesn’t want to hurt you. You’re still recuperating as you said.”

“You think so?” she asked hope fluttering to life in her chest.

“Yes. So give it some time. You probably do need to heal some. God help me, Alexa, I could murder your parents for what they did to you, and I don’t even know what exactly they did, or most likely hired someone to do – although I can imagine.”

“It was bad,” she said softly, almost in a whisper. “I don’t think I can – forgive them for what they hired someone to do to me.”

“Shit I was right! Damn it, which means I’m probably correct in my assumptions about what they did to you. God damn your parents Alexa. As far as I am concerned they are not your parents any longer. You deserve better even if that means being an orphan. But you still have me, and it looks like Colton as well.”

“I suppose you are right,” she murmured. “Perhaps it is better to be an orphan than tied to those people anymore.”

“Good! I’m glad you finally see that! That’s one good thing to come out of this whole mess. Colton may be the other.”

“Maybe,” she said cautiously. “I might have overstated the kiss.”

“No, you didn’t. I’m sure he is very attracted to you and cares about you. You should revel in that baby girl. It isn’t every day you find someone to rescue you from the monsters.”

“He is like my superhero,” she said wistfully, smiling slightly. “I want to believe that maybe he cares for me more than as an employee or fuck toy. I guess we’ll see.”

“Hey as long as you are open to the possibility, I say have at it. Let him come to you in his own time. If he pushes you too hard, tell him to back off. You have the power of consent.”

“Ok,” she said her nerves suddenly jangling. “I – don’t know where this is going but I need to be willing to travel down this path with him for as long as I can handle!”

“That’s my girl. You’ll be fine. I suspect you and Colton have a lot to talk about and work out if your relationship continues on this course. He seems like a great guy. Just promise me if he turns out to be like your parents you’ll run away as fast as you can.”

“I promise. He won’t be that bad. I don’t think anyone can hate me that much.”

“I don’t understand why they hate you so much. You’ve been a perfect daughter as far as I have experienced. Something is wrong with them sweetheart. Not you.”

“I love you, Grayson. Thanks for always being here for me.”

“Anytime. Just like you are there for me every time I need you. That’s what friends are for.”

“I’m so lucky to have you in my life.”

“Ditto sweetheart. Now you get back to recuperating so that you and Colton can finally figure out what y’all’s relationship is about.”

“You’ll come in a couple of days?”

“Of course. Can’t keep me away from my weekly dose of sweetness.”

Alexa laughed and wallowed in the love she felt for and from this man. She was truly grateful for him. If he hadn’t been there for her countless of times, she would have killed herself long ago, probably while still in high school.

“You’ve literally saved my life so many times,” she told him gratefully.

“You’ve done the same for me, darling. We’ll get through this together too. Now rest Alexa. Heal up so that you can come out dancing with me soon. I can’t wait to relax my hard body against your soft one.”

“You are too kind. Good night Grayson.”

“Good night Alexa.”
